Cool TomTom on Linux PC

I have been doing some reading, maybe I should still do more

Anyway, I was wondering if the info on the following pages could be of some use in making TomTom work natively on a Linux PC.

http://www.tomtom.com/page.php?Page=gpl

and

http://www.opentom.org/Main_Page

I am currently trying to get the PPC emulator/TomTom combo working from within Centrafuse, but just wondered if any of you Linux bods might know of a more elegant solution...

I think you still need the activation codes for a real tom tom to get the maps to work correctly. We were talking about getting this software running on the Zaurus.

Although TomTom is Linux software on a Linux system, the source is not available.
As it runs on a small embedded system, it's likely to be very stripped down and heavily modified Linux Kernel.

As such, the TomTom software will probably not work on a "standard" Linux kernel.
Although theoretically you could try it, debug and patch the kernel, It's not easy to do.

there is lots of info on the links I posted about what TomTom have done to Linux to make it work

Some peeps on here have also got the TomTom Go software working on a Sharp ?Zaurias? Linux PDA. All you need is a Map/Software License key.

TomTom have an SDK available too

Yes that is true.
Maybe I mis-expressed myself.

The reason it works in a Sharp Zaurus is that they have the same processor type.
The TomTom software will not run on a i386-compatible system as it's not compiled for that.

If you would have the source of the TomTom application you could probably compile it for a i386 type processor without too much trouble.

But because we do not have the source code, the software can only be run on compatible processors, or you can run the software through an emulator...

BTW: Are there any PDA emulators for Linux?

I've never seen a Zaurus emulator for pc. Doesn't mean one doesn't exist, but I've been using Zauruses for a few years.
