Ubuntu/Epia/Xenarc Sucess

Finally got around to installing a distro on my target hardware...

Via EN15000
Xenarc 700TSV

I installed Ubuntu for something to play with, then installed the OpenChrome driver, and got dri, gl, xv, and 800x480 working. Mplayer play's DVD's (using xv) using about 50% CPU or less.

So far its running stable, no problems. I just had to make sure the video apps are using xv for the output driver. I havn't attempted to try getting mplayer to compile with the OpenChrome patch for xvmc (would that lower cpu util enough to matter?)

Strangly enough, just as I'm ready to try installing the Xenarc Touchscreen drivers, the domain name expires. Should have downloaded the driver yesterday. Anybody know where I can download the drivers needed?

I've never been able to get the driver from xenarc to work (I just haven't played around much with it). Here is a link to the evtouch drivers which I use with my xenarc touchscreen: Touchscreen and other downloads

This script should actually download and install everything for you including the udev rules. All you should have to do is run the calibrator.

There is also a howto that should help you get up and running. Good luck!

I ended up playing with the touchscreen driver a bit.. and I'm not able to get the TouchKit driver to work right. It seems like might just be too out of date. Not enough debug info on what its doing.

Anyway, using the built in 2.6 kernel module (usbtouchscreen.ko) which supports the eGalax hardware, I got the evtouch driver to work with X. My only problem is that when I tap the screen, it double clicks. When I tap and hold, it single clicks. Ideas?

Are you sure that you have the MPEG2 decode working properly? My understanding is that CPU util should be under 5% playing back DVDs if the onboard decode is being utilized.

Just what I've read as I don't use unichrome for mpeg playback.

Well If I use a generic vesa driver, then mplayer uses 100% cpu, and the video studders. If I use the OpenChrome driver, its less than 50% and its smooth.

Its definatly an improvement... if I want to get xvmc working, I have to patch mplayer and recompile... and I'm not looking forward to that.

if you are using ubuntu 6.10 or later, it should already have a driver for via that works very good. It may even be based on the openchrome driver (I read in the ubuntu wiki that edgy was going to have the openchrome built in, but i'm not sure).

I'm interested in finding out if mplayer+xvmc works any better. Keep us updated.
