Running Linux on a cheap china double din

I'm just getting into carputers but have been a Linux embedded developer for a long time now. I see a lot of cheap double din entertainment system like http://www.chinavasion.com/product_i...een-bluetooth/
I was wondering if much effort has been put into porting emdedian (or some other light weight distro or even andriod) to these platforms. These systems are so cheap compared to building one from scratch or a system specific for carputing. I understand they probably lack in resources but for the cost it would be an interesting investment.

I did search on the forums to see if there has been any discussion but did not find anything. Maybe my search wasn't specific enough or possible to specific.

I gotta be honest, those prices fall under the "too good to be true" category, has anyone had any experiance with that company/those products?

I'll tell you what, even if you can't load new firmware on that, hooking that up with a beagleboard might be a cheap easy and small solution.

These are closed systems.
Without a lot of effort, there is no way to get Linux or any other OS loaded on one of these units.
It's also pretty likely that the hardware would not support Linux or any other PC OS.

You never found that link, did you? Why? It's hard to find in the NavBar across the top of the forums, amongst a lot of other crap.

TELL MP3CAR YOU WANT A LINK TO THE FAQ IN A MORE OBVIOUS, NOTICABLE LOCATION HERE.

Gosuperninja wasn't talking about the PC version of Linux, but embedded, like what you'd find on the G1 phone, Linux PDA, or in an internet router. Still, it'd take a fair bit of effort to get it running embedded Linux, unless it already runs it (a surprising amount of stuff does and doesn't say so).

Gosuperninja; I've not heard of any efforts to hack Linux on these on any sites I visit, and I visit a fair number dedicated to tasks like this. You'd have to plung ahead on your own (please document if you do!).

I've gotten linux to run on a couple of odd platforms but I knew a head of time that the processor was already supported. I wouldn't mind trying if I had a chance of success. I just can't tell what type of processor they use in these things. I've written a couple of emails to the vendors I but I never got a reply. I might just go for it, I have a little free time coming up. If I get anywhere I'll post.
