Ubuntu on Mac Mini (sleep issues)

ok so i am somewhat torn on what forum to post this in so i am going to post in both. i am running an intel mac mini and have been experimenting with linux. i am running the ubuntu mobile package on Ubuntu 8.04. i have been able to load and run Ubuntu without any problems as the primary OS. the problem that i am having is getting the mini to go to sleep when i turn off the car. i have a carnetix p1900 and it is set to make the mini sleep. i don't know if there is just a setting somewhere or what but any help would be awesome. thank you all in advance

Have you tested standby/sleep outside of the car? Seems you'd want to eliminate any other problems by testing on a bench or something first. Also, ubuntu and linux in general sucks as far as standby and hibernation. Out of all the machines I have it loaded on, I think I have ONE that sleeps and hibernates correctly. All the others typically lock up or just don't ever make it.

i did somewhat try outside of the car but i didn't test that much. in the car ubuntu just ignores the button press (simulated by the p1900) and then is just shut down when the p1900 cuts the power. this results in having to reboot (obivously) the next time i start the car, and cause ubuntu to want to try and check all the disks for errors (which takes a loooong time). well that sucks to hear that ubuntu is so bad at sleeping/hibernating, what is everybody else doing that is running linux in the car? how are you all getting around this?

mine sleeps/hibernates just fine, i don't have it automated through my M3 yt but manually it does it just fine.

the check disk happens on boot up once and a while but i am patient.

i am not sure how the mac mini is set up, do you have the switch emulator on the MB? is so what happens when you do it manually

There are a couple of different hibernation/standby programs out there that I've had success with after adding to ubuntu. Ubuntu out of the box just sucks. I don't know if I just have a vast assortment of unsupported machines or what. I'll find what the package was called that I installed, it seems to work about everytime.
