nGhost 2.0.2/Ubuntu 9.0.4 - Library won't play anything

Hi all,

I've been messing around with nGhost for a while now and I am having some trouble. I recently added about 15 gigs of music to my HDD and am able to get it to show up in nGhost, but when I hit play it won't play anything. It's like it's having some kind of problem reading the files because it skips through them one by one, but they don't play. I watched the terminal as this was happening and I see something like this each time:

Code:
06/20/2009 16:58:02 EDT:WARNING - event.cpp:doListBoxAction(1065) - Unhandled action: goto_positionText 06/20/2009 16:58:02 EDT:WARNING - populate.cpp:SearchDir(70) - Failed to create the artgrabber plugin buffer: loadfile "/home/god/music/Rascal Flatts/Feels Like Today/10 Holes.mp3" 0 sizeof(73) 06/20/2009 16:58:04 EDT:WARNING - event.cpp:doListBoxAction(1065) - Unhandled action: goto_positionText 06/20/2009 16:58:04 EDT:WARNING - populate.cpp:SearchDir(70) - Failed to create the artgrabber plugin buffer: loadfile "/home/god/music/Rascal Flatts/Feels Like Today/11 Oklahoma-Texas Line.mp3" 0 sizeof(87) 06/20/2009 16:58:05 EDT:WARNING - event.cpp:doListBoxAction(1065) - Unhandled action: goto_positionText 06/20/2009 16:58:05 EDT:WARNING - populate.cpp:SearchDir(70) - Failed to create the artgrabber plugin

I don't know if there's something I'm missing or what but I have no internet right now since I'm in the process of moving so I can't search (currently sitting outside Brueggers with a wifi card in the car, lol).

I have played with the nghost config file, it's pointing to the correct directory. I have also tried messing with some of the other conf files, changing users, modifying permissions on my OS, etc etc. I think I might be missing some plugins or something because I also have no options in the "Apps" button, and the blank button in the lower right pulls up three more blank buttons which when clicked just show a bunch of "xxxxxx plugin not loaded" messages.

Hopefully someone can help me out with this, cause this Audacious application with the freakin tiny buttons is getting old very quickly! haha thanks everyone.

has it played before? Do you have mplayer installed? Anything else in the log regarding playback?

I do have mplayer installed, but I'll make sure it's the latest version also. It has never played before. I would be happy to post the whole log start to finish but I think it's mostly tedious/useless feedback.

And of course yesterday the computer froze up, wouldn't reboot, and when I killed the power and then turned it back on it beeped as if there were a BIOS error and now it won't boot. It said it was powered off due to overheating, but the processor/board were not hot at all...not even warm, and it's very well ventilated.

I'm pretty irritated with the whole thing right now because I'm getting alternator whine and feedback from my amps too and the RCAs aren't even plugged into anything...not to mention my $300+ Diamond sub amp needs to go back to be replaced (*luckily under warranty) because I pulled one of the RCA cables off the other day and the whole fcuking terminal came out with it.

I'm gonna have to gut the whole car and reqire everything again. Ugh.

The blank buttons are blank because you are missing the ttf-liberation fonts.

As for playback, you shouldn't need the latest version. Paste (or attach) the entire log and I'll let you know what you problem is.

Alright, it'll be a couple days cause the computer won't boot right now and I have to have that amp replaced. I'll pop the thread up again once I get the whole log file and get the computer up and runnnig again. Thanks!

Just a minor thought...have you tried renaming one of your mp3's by replacing the space in the filename with an underscore or dot?

Many recent apps/guis on LINUX may not mind spaces in names while others might. *NIX systems in general don't play too well with spaces in filenames...but that may be unrelated to the problem you are having as I am not a guru on nGhost. I have used nGhost and did not experience any problems with mp3 playback.

I just read your original post more carefully. Since you mentioned that the mp3's do show up then the file names should have no factor because if it were they would not even display.

Hopefully someone can assist with the playback. Perhaps a codec or mp3 plugin missing on your system?

kev000 asked if you have mplayer installed and tried playing your songs with it. If they play with mplayer then I believe it should work with nGhost and missing codecs should not be a factor.
