Moblin 2.0 with Intel D945GCLF2D

I was following the moblin project a while back but then lost touch with it. Now I see they finally have a LIVE Image available. I am curious if anyone knows if the Moblin image will run on any of Intel Atom mobos such as the Intel D945GCLF2D. That would be a nice O/S for a CarPC because of the GUI design. The only thing is getting handsfree phone stable.

The site states that the Moblin will not run on non-SSSE3 supported CPU's. The question is if the CPU for D945GCLF2D supports that. Will have to research.

Well I may have found it. On wikipedia..though not sure how entirely accurate..it does state that its compatible:

I already downloaded the image and will create a LIVEUSB test it tomorrow.

I've tried moblin.

I wasn't massively impressed. It'll be nice for mobile devices, but didn't suite my needs for a CarPC at all. I doubt it will for you either, so don't expect too much.

moblin should run well on the intel atom mini-itx boards. There's a lot to like about it: speed, blingy-graphics but it's not quite finished yet. I'd wait for the ubuntu moblin remix or LinuxICE3 (which will have a lot of moblin tech inside).

Sounds good. I will just run as LIVEUSB for curiosity sake...or virtual machine.

i downloaded the ubuntu moblin remix and ran it in a vm looks really cool and very promising for the car. I think the main idea behind the UI would translate to much easier use in the car than standard OSes UI.

I don't know if it was because i was running it in a vm or what but the ubuntu moblin remix ran really slow for me. everything just seemed laggy. Once again this could very well just be an issue with how i have my vm setup and nothing to do with the actual OS or UI.

Anybody running this on real hardware care to comment on their experience?

moblin traditionally runs poorly in a vms because it uses a lot of opengl that normally isn't very fast in vms. On actual hardware, it runs very snappy.

ah did not know that. I went back and enabled 3d support in the vm (i am using vmware fusion v3.0 with direct X 9 capable of running windows 7 with aero) and rebooted ubuntu. Although it still is a little laggy (prob due to the fact that i have windows running in yet another vm), overall everything was MUCH better. maybe this weekend i will try a full install on my laptop to get a real sense of how it is going to run.
