TomTom for Linux

Following on from the TomTom Linux thing, I contacted them regarding whether there were any plans to release TomTom as a software-only solution for the Linux platform. Their response is below: -

Now I may be reading too much into this, but it definately isn't a no!

Fingers crossed, eh.

Well, apparently their devices use linux:
http://www.gpl-violations.org/news/2...ux-tomtom.html
I cannot understand why they would get their software to run on linux and ARM processors yet not release something for linux desktops or the sharp zaurus (uses linux and ARM). They would be the only game in town in a completely untapped market. I would buy it and I am sure many others on here would as well.

zaurus and tomtom

I stumbled across this discussion and thought you might be interested to know that someone, with my help, has managed to make the software from the TomTom GO run on a Sharp Zaurus.

Here's the OESF forum post about it:

and more here:

whats the advantage of running it on a Lunix PDA, thats still not using the CarPC

Some peeps on those sites above are buying TomTom Go's just so they have a license to use TomTom maps & software to use on the PDA... Why not just use the TomTom as its designed to be used if you actually have one?

The TomTom Home software has some kind of web interface which allows you to view/use/control the TomTom Go's through Windows XP. The obvious benefit of this is that the GPS is then taken car of by the TomTom and required no CPU power from the CarPC.

Now if I had a readily available supply of cheap 2nd hand TomTom's with broken screens or touchscreen
