Pandora (music streaming service) works under Linux

http://www.pandora.com/

Found out about Pandora in this thread. Pretty cool, a good substitute for Launchcast. You enter in a song or artist you like and it starts playing songs like it (can't play that exact song by request, due to licensing). All you need is a web browser with Flash. I had Pandora playing under Knoppix yesterday. 0l33l

Should be great for those with Linux based Carputers with high-speed internet. I wonder if there is a MythTV plugin for it yet...

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but ran into these forums/threads from a google search on running Pandora on linux... anyway.. I think Redian meant "audacity". It's software that let's you record and edit sound.

Ah, I think I finally get it. He didn't mean to suggest a different streaming service, as I had thought originally, but a way to record music from Pandora.

BTW, welcome to the forums Sanosuke. I'm very surprised you hadn't encountered this forum before, since it says in your other thread that you've already built a CarPC previously.

Thanks Tom. I'm a little surprised too that I've never run into this site, however I must admit that I had help when I setup my old car and never thought about looking up info on the net.

Another thing about Pandora though... if it works, haven't tested it yet since I'm still trying to get Pandora working period on a recent KUbuntu install. You might want to take a look into Pandora's Jar. I use it on windows and it takes all the work out of recording the music.

Not sure what the forum's policy is on this stuff but it's worth a look imo. Also, another thing, Pandora's music is only 128k but we're only reviewing the music from their site, right

Pandora on Linux..?

Sorry guys if this is not the right place to ask this...
I have been trying to get pandora to play on linux (ubuntu dapper)for a while now. Both in firefox and opera, the app loads fine, it just doesn't play. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

If sound works on other flash sites, like homestarrunner.com, I have no idea.

If, however, sound doesn't work with other flash, look for the utility called 'aoss', it's usually packaged with other ALSA utilities. I'm not familiar enough with Ubuntu to tell you the package name for that distro.

Once installed, you should be able to start Firefox (or Opera) and then issue 'aoss firefox' (or 'aoss opera') to get sound working under Flash.

If that doesn't work, you may have to recompile your kernel with OSS support to get Flash sound working.
