How exactly would it run perfectly if it couldn't find the GPS receiver?

IIRC, you set up a symbolic link in ~/.wine/dosdevices called 'com4' and point it to /dev/tty0. You should probably check the docs though, as there may have been a double colon or a config file needed. Hopefully the problems with mapping com ports in WINE (what Cross Over Office is based on) have been fixed, as that was broken in a few versions.

The latest version of Wine indeed maps COM ports correctly.

Does your version of crossover office use the symlinks-in-$WINEPREFIX/dosdevices way of configuring it or are the serial port mappings stored in the config file?

I've had mixed success getting iguidance to run. Under Cedega 5.1 the navigation program itself runs and is able to read data from the GPS, but the map loader refuses to start. Under an older, free winehq version of Wine dated 20050211 both the map loader and the navigation program run fine, but the navigation program fails to read any data from the GPS.

One thing that got me at first, the permissions on /dev/ttyUSB0 were too restrictive and prevented the unprivileged wine process from opening the GPS receiver.
