embedded imedia question

So I'm looking at the voom pc and thinking it's pretty cool. Some things are a little unclear. If I were to use the embedded imedia linux distro, is it possible/easy to change what I have on the distro? For instance if I were to install a frontend, would it install to the harddrive or can it install straight to the cf card along with the linux? I would like to know because I want to keep my carputer ready for future upgrades while keeping fastest boot time possible. Voom pc says it will boot in what looks like a little over 10 secs. Can anybody verify that? One last question that I have right now is a dummy linux question since Im still learning, I like the freeness of it. I've got a pretty big library of music that I used on my xp machine along with itunes, if I were to copy that music library over to my linux carputer I would probably have to download some drivers or do a conversion Im assuming? I realize this post kinda bounces around but I really do appreciate anybody taking the time to help me on this.

As long as they are in a common unencrypted/unlicensed format like mp3, ogg, etc. you won't need to do any conversions depending on the media player you choose. Some linux media players will play a vast array of formats - what fromat are they in?

Well all of my songs were ripped or downloaded so I have nothing specific to itunes, but I thought itunes itself converted everything to ..AAC? or something I'm really not sure, I can't even check, that HD is 3 states away at the moment. I have a feeling most of it is mp3, some wma. I bet I could convert all of it on my desktop to mp3.

iTunes does not add DRM to your tracks or convert them. My entire collection is MP3 and non-DRM and I use iTunes for play back exclusively outside of my carputer project.

There are ways to remove DRM from ITMS purchased tracks as well (google is your friend). Better yet, buy from allofmp3.com (no DRM).
