I appologize if my posts came across as disrespectful in any way. that was not my intent. Since I'm interested in this project but not a developer, I was attempting to do what I could for the project/community which to my mind includes:
- Downloading and testing the beta releases
- Leaving my bittorrent client running for days to share my bandwith out to others downloading the release
- Providing what I hope is meaningful and helpful feedback to the project developers
- Documenting solutions to problems here in the forum to provide a knowledge source for other who might run into similar issues in the future.
If kev000 is unhappy with the above, he is welcome to tell me to go away or provide for me some suggestions as to how I could better serve the project as a non-developer.

you're fine. I actually am pleased that you are trying it out and providing feedback. Thanks also for seeding the torrent. That saves a lot of people a lot of stress by waiting days for my computer to upload to theirs.
cheers,
kev

Kev000 - if you want to use my website as a mirror you're welcome. I'm currently not using the webspace as I don't have enough time to develop the site at the moment so the bandwidth is pretty much not being used. You could use it as the prefered download method if you would like the pressure off seeding.

Awesome project. I've been using suse linux since version 7, (many years) on my desktop but my current carPC OS is a small XP embedded build. I would love to contribute to this project or help out in some way as I've been considering linux for the car. I am good at digital graphic design of frontends and working with linux in general. Im going to DL your newest alpha and give it a whirl. Couple Q's Is GPS implimented yet? What is the backend audio/video player?

As for GPS, gpsd is running but there isn't yet a pre-installed gps application. I've been testing out navit, roadnav, and gpsdrive. We'll decide which one to include in possibly a beta release.
nGhost, the media frontend uses mplayer to playback media. There are plenty of areas that need helping hands so head on over to the linux ice forum and see what's being done.
thanks,
kev

I will check out the forum, I am even more interested now that I know mplayer is being used as the backend. I would like to really help with skinning and or developing nicer frontend graphics. Im also DL the latest alpha to play around with.

browse around the forums for nGhost Development at http://www.nextabyte.com/nanonymous/...wforum.php?f=1 to see some skins I've got in progress for nGhost. I would be glad to have another graphics guy on board with the distro as I would like to have a large selection of skins available for nGhost/LinuxICE users.

For those that may happen to live in australia and use Telstra Bigpond as their ISP - LinuxICE alpha 3 is now available on the bigpond file server until the 25th of june (I don't have much choice over the expiry date). Downloads from the bigpond file server don't count towards your usage.

well I set up a test rig (p4 1.6ghz, 256ram, 80 gig harddrive, nvidia chipsets) and am going to use this to test the distro and add to the development. Just realized I ran out of blank CD-r's but the .iso is waiting on the desktop of my other pc waiting to be burned

Ok installed "fiesty" on my test machine. The only thing is similar to another users problem, I cannot get the touchscreen to respond correctly. Its always mirrored or backwards. I treid messing with xorg.conf a bit and made some headway but its still going to need some tweaking. I would like to know more about nghost, how to change skins and add media etc. Still a lot of learning to do but I did manage to get your distro up and running good. Very responsive. Still feeling polar about all the xubuntu screens and the need to login a user and passwd. I think the distro should boot directly to frontend without user intervention. The frontend should actually be the GUI if you ask me, eliminate xfce all together. Just throwing some ideas out there but I think we really need to work on a new graphical user interface that is touchscreen friendly to boot directly into. Even if its just a heavily modified KDE or something that is TS friendly that would be better than having a random desktop GUI and a separate program for the frontend. If linuxICE is going to have tight integration I believe this needs to be addressed. Other than that things are looking good for an alpha. We need to decide a GPS application to at least try out and in order for this to work in the car, the GPS app should be properly embedded in the fronend. I want to port my RR skin over to a nGhost or even linux GUI if possible. Starting research to see what needs to be done to make this happen.
