Linux NOOB

Hello everyone.
I would like to have LinuxICE and Nghost on my car computer but I have never done anything with Linux other than playing a couple games on my brother-in-law's computer. I have downloaded the ISO file for LinuxICE as well as four files from the Nghost site. What else do I need to get these onto my computer? I know that I need to burn the ISO onto a disk, printed the install instructions from the LinuxICE page, I assume that I don't just copy the ISO onto a CD. What do I need to do to "burn" the ISO onto a CD?

I hope you guys don't mind stupid questions but I am really Linux handicapped but don't want M-soft filling up my entire hard drive before I can put any music on it.

Thanks,
Sean

just in case you don't know what an '.iso' file is its an image file of a certain file system. think of it kinda like a zip or compressed archive.

Goblin, I know what an ISO file is. The car computer has no current OS. My Home computer uses XP. I have Nero that is capable of burning a disk from an ISO, I was just unsure if this is all I need to do. I have read several of the threads and see several instances of people talking about compilation and items that sound like they need to be loaded before installation.

OK, I used Nero to burn the ISO to a CD. I put the CD in an old laptop that I have. It was already set to boot from CD. This far in and I have my first error. It says "ISOLINUX 3.11 Debian-2007-03-12 isolinux: Cannot boot from this CD. Please use CD2 or try a BIOS update"

What did I do wrong? Is there something in XP that I can burn an ISO with?

when do you get that error when you boot with the cd in the drive??

for xp you can use deep burner, it has a free and a paid version and you can burn iso's with it

check the age of your bios on the old laptop some that are to outdated will cause some install issues with linux.

If it's pre 2000ish that would probably be the problem.

If that seems to be the case just go to the mfg's website and get the updated bios install and you should be good to go.

I will look into this, this computer is probably 10 years old. I will try this and get back to you guys.

This may be a dumb question but, can I run ICE and NGhost without a touch screen? My laptop doesn't have a USB port for me to plug the touch screen into. I am only setting this up on the laptop to make sure I can get it working. Once I have done it on the laptop and have the carputer fixed then I will load it onto the carputer.

LinuxICE isn't designed to be run without a touchscreen. Plugins for keyboard control or joystick control are not yet complete either.

Bummer. I guess I will just have to wait until I can get a new MoBo for the Carputer.

KEV000 is ICE/Nghost compatible with this board from the store?
