V1Connect - Valentine1 Integration

For those that do not know the V1Connect is a hardware device that allows your pc to communicate with a Valentine1 radar detector. I thought I would post in this forum to bring awareness to the V1Connect development effort that has been taking place to bring support to LinuxICE.

The original thread is here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/linu...ort-linux.html

Hopefully when the developers find the necessary time to complete this it will be apart of the LinuxICE installer and you will have the opportunity to use it. I just wanted to make you all aware of this effort and hope to see some of you using the plugin when it becomes available.

Tax return season is nigh, so hopefully i can convince the tripzero+1 to let me grab a v1.

When vone becomes stable, I'll package it up and throw it in the LinuxICE repo for those who need it. I'll have it installed by default in future versions of LinuxICE moving forward.

We probably want vone to be run triggered by hardware. Does the v1 show up as a normal serial device? If so, what vid/pid should I look for?

It is just a normal serial device but it does not use a custom vid. You would have to have it setup where the user can choose to enable to vone plugin and specify which port it is connected too. I can't think of a way to auto find the device as of right now.

have you thought of doing a serial2usb type thing using ftdi or something? that way you can flash the ftdi chip with your own pid for uniqueness. I really like it when we can detect hardware and enable features on the fly. We do this with obdgpslogger if you have a scantool. otherwise, it doesn't take up any system resources. i'm not sure if we can detect serial devices as easily.

Currently the V1Connect is serial only. This allows the greatest flexibility when connecting it to systems. You can connect it via USB using most usb -> serial adapters. I don't have plans to make a USB only version right now or to make my own usb -> serial cable, thus no way to specify a unique pid for my device. I have not yet seen a real reason to go USB but maybe in the future. I know the other plugins and software applications that have been developed just have a setting screen when you setup the port the device is connected to as well as any other plugin settings for customization.

Does it it inform you on screen when you are being tracked by radar automatically when enabled?

That is the idea yes.

As for the functionality being developed for LinuxICE, I think tripzero would be able to answer to the specifics.

tripzero,

I have documented the current audio that the Valentine1 produces and this should allow you to easily mimic the audio in software. http://www.v1connect.com/Development.aspx

Until some actual v1 hardware gets into chunky's hands, it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Maybe kantlivelong can loan Chunky the hardware for a couple weeks? I already spent all my fun money, so it doesn't look like i'll be getting one anytime soon...

Or the hands of anyone who's a Linux coder, really.

Last I heard it mostly works but not quite. Just about anyone who can code on Linux [I actually do almost nothing that isn't ansi C] and has a V1 should be able to get it working.

Yea I provided someone (kantlivelong I think) a V1Connect at a steep discount as he said he worked very close with the LinuxICE dev team and would be able to produce a fully featured plugin. So he should have all the hardware necessary and I would hope he cant let you borrow the hardware or work with you more to get it complete.

Chunkyks, your in Los Angeles? PM me if you don't get the hardware and maybe I can hook you up with a V1 & V1CS for development purposes.

vone has been magically corrupted by my qt-isms and c++ .

Just looking for a status update and was wondering if this plugin is officially not going to happen?

Centrafuse 3.1 now has a fully supported plugin available: http://forums.fluxmedia.net/plugin-d...html#post74065
