Glad you got it up and running.

The nGhost that ships with ICE Alpha 3 has limited skinning capabilities. However the soon to be released nGhost 0.95 will have the capabilities to have completely customized skins. We are working on documenting how skins can be developed.

Alpha 4 will contain the new nGhost and address many of the issues you mentioned.

Thanks,
Kev

I found that by using the login manager tool, and selecting to automatically login, I have bypassed the login and now boot directly to nghost. I am trying to get this going on an oldIBM stinkpad (600E modified to a 500Mhz CPU and a 20 Gb HD with 256 Mb RAM). I have it running, it's a little slow, but I have stumbled across some major issues. I'll take 'em over to the LICE forums and break 'em out there.

been hacking on xorg.conf for a couple hours now but I still cannot get rid of the reversed touchscreen. I tried everything listed with adding options but it looks like my xorg.conf has 3 entries for touschscreen or 'stylus' Anyway it might be also cause I have an older 4 wire cheapie TS as my tester. Something tells me a xenarc 5 wire would be working right. . .

Also is there a gui app for TS configuration or is this going to be in a later release? Im starting to dig deeper into the distro and nghost and im really liking the speed of this OS. I saw a config for printing left in there still, I suppose this could be stripped, not many people print in the car. Looking forward to more releases and maybe some documentation on nGhost. Keep up the great work guys!

Testing Roadnav .17 for maps and nav, looks somewhat touchscreen friendly

The next Alpha's calibrator will be more compatible with more ts's. I would hold off on a gui app until xorg 7.3 comes out with hotplug support for input devices (and better support for touchscreens). depending on how well xorg 7.3 works, it may be a must have in LICE.

If anyone here is interested in helping out with the Linux ICE distro, I've posted some things that need to be done. I will also create a TODO: section in the LinuxICE wiki.

Having more developers will expedite the process by a lot and leave more time to focus on the overall ICE project and more focus on nGhost.

Thanks,
Kev

For anyone who's been itching to get their hands on the latest test build of Linux ICE, here's your chance! We need lots of help testing/debugging if we are going to get a release anytime soon. So get your VM's and your CarPCs ready for the bleeding edge.

LinuxICE-Alpha4-8 Test build

what's new:
- Matchbox Desktop2, Panel2, and Window Manager 1.1 with custom LinuxICE theme
- Updated Calibrator (works with more touchscreens)
- Latest evtouch driver and udev rules (works very well)
- New ICEInstall (sets up autologin and tuxonice aka suspend2) - run this after install
- nGhost 0.95 test build (still a WIP, but very usable)
- CarMan 0.6-1 obd-II Monitoring program

What we are working on:

- Get Matchbox-panel2 to work
- Get the desktop theme to load
- Make a deb package for navit

If you can help us with what we are working on trying to debug, we would most appreciate your help. My time is split many different ways these days so I'm opening up to the community for help.

If you have any tips or bug reports, here would be a good place to file a fix/bug report.

You can also discuss the development with myself and the other devs on the Linux ICE IRC channel #linuxice on irc.freenode.com

Big thanks,
Kev

1) check the MD5 sum of the image you created, sounds like a bad burn/download.
2) which version did you try?

the latest test build = http://nextabyte.com/nanonymous/down...-Alpha4-12.iso
the latest test build's MD5sum = b48f406e3768947a6383cc8db25ba470 LinuxICE-Alpha4-12.iso

thanks for the feedback.

ps to check the md5sum in Linux type: md5sum [name-of-iso-file]. In windows you'll have to download a md5 calculator (sorry, windows just works that way).

were you able to check the md5 to see if it matches? what are your hardware specs? which version of ubuntu were you able to boot?

ran the test build you linked me to, so i assume that it's md5 matches. i am running intel d845gvsh mobo with a samsung hd, then i tried a newer seagate hd. i could boot ubuntu 7.04. i've changed about every setting in bios because i researched the prob and concluded that some changes will help it run better, but didn't.
