Does anyone know of a 7" touch screen overlay that is compatible with a Mac Mini?

I got the 700TSV for my Mac mini and it works perfect. Mac drivers are there. Im still getting used to the OS though. Its not hard. it just sucks when you are trying to double click in iTunes and the lines are on a 800x600 res, and you hit a speed bump. hehehehehe

I'm not looking for a new touch screen.. I want a touch screen overlay to place on top of my factory NAV screen. Any known to be compatible with Mac OS?

Just to be more specific, you will need both the overlay and the controller. THe controllers are usually USB and the drivers are pretty universal. All OS's.

And the NAV screen is going to be very very fuzzy with VGA resolution.

So I checked out the 7" touch screen kit from Digital WW - http://www.digitalww.com/store/proddetail.asp?prod=TS7K

It looks like this includes the controller as well? On the CD-ROM it lists OS 9, does anyone know if this is compatible with OS X as well?

2k1Toaster- Do you think the picture quality will be that bad? I found an adapter for the video here: http://www.tvandnav2go.com They claim to have near HDTV quality. Where do you see the greater risk of losing quality, converting the DVI out of the Mac to component, or converting the NAV to accept the component input?

I have only seen 2 factory nav screens that are VGA. And those were 640x480. Not easily hacked, but they have been done and posted their worklogs on these forums.

The mac outputing high quality video is of no concern. The then conversion between that high quality digital DVI signal, to low quality analogue component is where you lose everything. Just hook it up to a regular tv. You will see what I am talking about. Text will look fuzzy, straight lines on the windows toolbars will appear distorted and slightly wavy. Just horrendous to look at.

I don't think you will be very happy, unless you can convert or replace your stock screen to VGA. Then get rid of the converter and go just DVI-->VGA and plug it in, be happy.

I have actually hooked it up to a regular TV via RCA and know exactly what your talking about. Picture quality was very weak. I was just hoping there were some sort of solution to clean up the quality, I mean why would Apple even make that DVI > RCA adapter if the quality is so poor? I've read about people tweaking the quality using DisplayConfigX, any info there?

I want to keep my stock NAV in place (just dished 1800 out for it when I got the car) if at all possible. And I don't believe I can just replace the screen, I would think this is all one unit.

This could put quite the axe in my project if I can't get decent quality video into that NAV screen. I really have to believe there is a solution out there for getting decent quality video via component out of the Mac. I mean I could hookup a cheap DVD player and get decent video from the RCAs, surely a Mac could output similar quality?

No, you can't. You can't get good quality video from an RCA output. You can't. Repeat after me: You can't.

This question is asked repeatedly and the answer each time is no, you can't.

Why? Not because the Mac outputs a crap signal but because the NTSC video standard is far too poor to DISPLAY good quality video. There is no way to 'fix' the video signal. Why? Because the resolution of NTSC is much, much lower than VGA 800 X 600. It bleeds, it saturates, and it is prone to interference.

VGA -> RCA = disappointment. The reason video looks good on RCA is because it is made for television and you don't notice the bleeding and inaccuracy of the picture. However, I bet you have noticed the difference between NTSC 'normal' television and HDTV. That's because they are two different standards. VGA is yet a different standard and equally different.

Your only choice is to axe the nav screen and replace it with a VGA screen with video inputs and route your nav unit inputs into the VGA screen. Otherwise, enjoy your nav unit without a PC in the car.

What about a PC w/ a video card that has TV RCA out? Such as this one.

I'm assuming this would output a fairly clean picture? But this wouldn't be an option with the Mac mini of course. It would be enough to change my mind and look for a mini PC. Opinions?

your ebay page, some problems.

under features, your html is a little odd. you have the left column centered with the right column. making it a little hard to know what goes with what. notice "mouse emulator" is next to the middle of the info it goes with, #2 out of 3...

iMac OS9 is not an OS per say; its a computer model and an older OS no one is going to use in a carputer.

And you dont list OSX, so is it compatible or not.

There are UPPD (Universal Pointer Device Driver) (Touch-Based) available and (freely downloadable) for OSX, if the drivers provided happen to not work with your particular application.

First off, a touch screen is emulating a mouse. This technology isn't propriatary, and has not changed. Assuming that it wouldn't work with OSX, is like stating that OSX (or Windows Vista - if you want to use a different application for arguments sake) is superior to everything on the planet, and sees no need to be able to use the traditional mouse that 300 billion other computer manufacturers and computer users are using right now. That like saying someone designed a car that runs on gas available from a station in egypt only. Sure there is software that would be foreign to all other OS's, but not a mouse. The only reason that I can see that a driver for a mouse not be available, would be that the OS has no consumer usage or need for support.

I know I'm over explaining a little like that, but I suppose I'm trying to say that the hardware function is common to a computer, period. The driver, since they have been designed to be, and are available as universal drivers, states that you should have no worries with any OS.
