How do I play the audio coming in on the Line-In?

How do I play the audio coming in on the Line-In?

Setup:
Intel Mac Mini
Mac OS X or Windows XP (via Bootcamp or Parallels)
HQCT (High Quality Car Tuner module, outputs radio on Line-Out)
etc...

I've hooked up the HQCT and can record live radio using Sound Recorder. It plays back just fine. However, I can't figure out how to play that sound in real time without recording it first. Isn't there a standard setting that will allow the Line-In to pass through to the internal speaker or headphone jack?

Recording it in Sound Recorder worked in both Parallels and booted using Bootcamp. In Mac OS X I could see the input registering in the control panel but don't know of a Sound Recorder equivalent in Mac (plus my install will probably more Windows centric).

I also tried to pass through the Line In on my Dell Inspiron 6000.

Questions similar to mine have been posted here before but the threads didn't point to any solutions. Is this a limitation of the sound controller and it's drivers that can only be remedied with an external sound card? Anyone solved this yet?

You need an external device like the Griffin iMic to get input into your Mac. Once you've done that, you can use LineIn. It provides pass through of sound input. It's free.

Also, have you tried connecting headphones to the HQCT output and listening to it? If you can hear it, then then HQCT is working correctly and it is simply a configuration issue.

Yes, it's just a configuration issue. Like I said - I can record the HQCT sound using Sound Recorder under Windows. The HQCT is working. The only problem is being able to hear the sound.

LineIn did the trick. I downloaded and installed it and it worked right off the bat.

You may not be aware of this, since you have a PPC Mini. The Intel based Mac Minis do have a line in feature.

Now all I need is the equivalent of the LineIn software that works under Windows. Anyone know of such a beast?

Nice. Yet another reason to upgrade...:-)
