im not sure but from the little bit of information given here http://www.routebuddy.com/manual/Doc...ate/index.html it seems like this could be a daunting task to perform while driving. i don't know for sure though. anybody out there using this?

I thought this was the breakthrough we had been looking for but it is only partially there. The turn by turn function requires YOU to input the route. So you have to get that route from somewhere rather than having the program suggest a route.
While I support a user definable route, often you don't know how to get there and automatic route-finding is a lifesaver -or at least a time saver.

Do you have to manually input the route in the program or can you import routes from something like mapquest?

You can import routes. They have a free trial download that only works in the Santa Fe area that you can try.
It's a shame, really. I want to like the program -it looks easy to use and I support a native Mac GPS program but it just isn't yet ready for primetime in the car.
Not to mention that controlling it while driving might be an adventure. Not sure it if it Applescript-able.

RouteBuddy is not scriptable at the moment. And you can use it to plan your trip - it is just not very convenient as you cannot simply enter start and destination addresses, but you must click in the map to define points and then create route by dragging the mouse.

I've been using it for few hours now, and its OK. You can input a road name or postal code and when it finds it you can press navigate(as long as your GPS RX is plugged in and working), and it'll direct you there. And it works pretty well, it records it as a route too. If only Apple had better voices in the speech category in System Preferences, but on the whole I am happy with it.
It does need to be more Carputer friendly though. The map needs to be rotated or 3D mapping is must to be anywhere near as good as Windows apps.
I was using PC Navigator on my bros laptop(windows) which I think is great for sat nav, but that was always crashing and freezing, i much prefer routebuddy indeed macs in that repect.
At least things are moving with routebuddy now with regards to updates, there was a time when i thought they would disappear and get no further.
My 2 cents

For me, the whole point of a GPS system in a car is to FIND where I need to get to. If I already know my way - why bother?
I was one of the many mugs that bought Route Buddy + the entire North American map system. What a waste of money and time.
I have been faithfully downloading the many updates and hoping that I can recoup my initial outlay of sheckles, to no avail. Each "update" sucks just as much as the last version.
I use iGuidance via Parallels. It may be Winblows, but at least it works the way a car GPS should.

Yep, this is the same reason why I have a pretty MacMini running Windows Xp in my Carputer
Mac OS-X is really nice, but, it's like having this beautiful sportcar sitting in your driveway, on blocks - no wheels.
What a pity.

Not to spin this off-topic and out of control, but I've never understood why many Mac users think it's okay to be haughty and condescending towards Windows.
Mac OSX is nice, but it's not the be all end all of the computer world.

you are about to get yourself shouted at...i would retract your previous statement and go post it over on the windows front end section.
No one said it was the best, they just prefer it. No one said "windows sucks" they just said that they ahve to use it when they would rather be using OSX.

Trust me, if there was a complete Mac front end, I'd be happy as a clam.

Well...to be fair, the term 'Winblows' was used.
Okay, back on topic now, or we'll have to close this one up. We haven't had a good holy war on OS' lately and I'd like to keep it that way.
