Saab 9-5

First pics of our new installation. We bought an old Saab radio on eBay and used its case to install an LCD screen, HQCT tuner, USB hub and Carnetix P5V power source. Almost everything is connected to the original connectors of the unit (power, audio), so switching the screen for original head unit is extremely easy.

The mac goes to the glove box, which has a really good shape for this, so we do not take up much space there. The PSU (Carnetix P2140) is mounted under the dashboard behind the glove box.

Primary controls for this installations are the steering wheel buttons, connected to a Phidgets 8/8/8 module.

Of course, the bezel is now being made and should be installed in about 2 weeks.

Hi Jirka,
Nice to see another 9-5 getting the treatment.
I'm also going down the MacMini route, tho things have come to a stop for the moment as I'm awaiting a 2Gb Ram upgrade. Running Parallels on the Mac seems to gobble up memory, my current 512 Mb would only allow 192Mb for parallels so I was constantly troubled with low memory msgs.
I'm using the Subaru WRX Dbl Din tray to mount my Lilliput 629, with the Carnetix 2140 behind the screen. Not quite sure what I'll lose by removing the OEM head unit.
I'll be interested to see how your system develops. Good Luck
Colin

Can you elaborate on what you said? Are you having a custom bezel produced or did you purchase the SAAB GPS bezel that colindunscombe used?

I have a 9-5 that I'm considering doing this project on.

looks good.

what you lose by taking out the radio is that bottom line of the SID is useless..

What this guys doing seems promising...
