Routebuddy not detecting BU-353???

Hi folks, I just received my Globalsat BU-353...i downloaded the mac drivers...updated routebuddy to 1.5.... but my GPS receeiver does not show up on the list. In fact the option is even greyed out. I originally had a HOLUX but returned it for the same problem...so i got the Global sat, a Recognized device from routebuddy but it also is not working. The receiver does pick up a fixed position. Would there be a setting with the mac that is preventing it from working?

Do you see the device in the System Profiler?

Do you see device's "file" in /dev/ ? I have never experienced this kind of problem with Routebuddy. Sometimes it does not work completely with some receivers etc, but if the device does not show up on the list, the problem is probably in its driver, not RB application as such.

If you can see the /dev/cu... file you can try to use Minicom to connect to it and see whether you get any output. Try speeds 4800 (NMEA standard) and 9600 (not standard, but used by many newer devices).

Jirka Jirout,

Thanks for the reply.... I kept on searching and eventually found the problem. I had downloaded the PPC driver for the mac....I needed the intel driver as I have an intel core duo. I also made the necessary setting adjustments....it's working now, although I find sometimes it 'hang's when calculating...not to sure why. Not always...just sometimes. Routebuddy isn't exactly what I wanted in terms of a GPS software, but as far as I know it's the only mac software available.

I find it doesn't always pick the most efficient route and I would like to be able to just type in an address and have it make the route for me.

We'll see how things go once I get it back in the honda tomorrow. I had to bring her in the house for internet/upgrade purposes.

Route 66 2004 follows the Windows software naming convention i.e. you can buy Garmin 2009 maps in 2008.

If my memory serves me correctly R66 2004 was released about the end of 2002 - correct me if this is wrong. You'd be surprised on the age of the map data, but suffice to say in a sample from San Francisco (Daly City to be precise) R66 describes a roundabout in three sections, SA 2009 describes the same roundabout in seven sections, Google and Mapquest in 16/17 and in RouteBuddy it's hard to count the detail over 27 sections. RouteBuddy majors on detail and quality, this has had an effect on rendering speed in the past but RouteBuddy 2.1 is set to change that.

Our current map release for USA is 2008.04 from the latest Tele Atlas data set.

If you understand iTunes then you'll understand RouteBuddy.

We are not a GPS company selling software and maps to support our hardware and are hardware independent.

RouteBuddy is a software and mapping company which is majoring on a quality product that's useful for all types of Mac users, ICN people like yourselves and for many other interests. Our request list is a long one but we do aim to be the best mapping software available on the Mac, being the best just takes a little longer. ;-)

RouteBuddy 2.1 will be released in the next two weeks.

This will feature a speed hike on rendering, some fixes and more features that are not yet specific to ICN.
