So, what do you use your touchscreen for?

Just curious, before I dig in and start buying touchscreens and such for my MacMini install - what benefit is a touchscreen? What do you use your touchscreen for with your Mac?

For controlling the applications. Like Car FrontEnd or QCAR or Amp or FrontRow.

It gets you killed faster if you use it too much. It also reduces the readability of the display. Hm, these are not really benefits, are they? So: it looks cool and you can easily control applications with standard GUI (or at least most of them). It may also be faster for some specific tasks (such as entering text) under certain conditions. Without a touchscreen, you have to design much more of the GUI yourself to allow control using rotary knobs etc.

Nothing, I have removed the touch panel from my display.

I use it to control AMP and various other apps. It is useful with PC navigator run in Parallels to enter text, and select other options as it has large button interface.

If there were a frontend like roadrunner for macs it would be far more useful. I've run roadrunner on parallels and it works well, but i prefer to use AMP simply because i like the way music search is carried out.

Simple things like volume control can be dangerous when driving, which is why i hacked an apple remote to create a steering wheel control, which can control Front row(which i don't use that often) and more importantly volume.

I'm yet to try a rotary device, but may purchase a powermate and give it a go.

I removed my touchscreen (and the rest of my setup) and now use my 7" Xenarc as an extra monitor/tivo display in my room. It's a nice desk accessory on 4" flexible tripod.

PowerMate used to be a great solution for car pc back in 2002. NuLOOQ or 3DConnexion's Space Navigator are much better options these days.

I don't like the look of the NulooQ but the space navigator looks pretty good. And only £35 not bad.

I use mine to stare at in disgust. My 7" Xenarc TSV died a few months ago and now sits in my dash as a constant reminder of $300+ I will never see again.
