P1900 / Mac Mini weirdness...

Hey guys, I've searched and searched but haven't found anyone with the same issue I'm having here: my P1900 isn't putting my Mini to sleep at all. I can pt the Mini to sleep with the power button when the ignition is on (and it wakes up fine as well), but when I leave it on and switch off the ignition, it stays on (according to the power LED on the front) for about 30-60 seconds then shuts off completely. Likewise, if I put the Mini to sleep then turn off the ignition, it powers down after a minute or so. I double checked the jumpers this AM and they are set correctly (1&2 open, 3&4 closed, 5&6 closed, 7&8 open, 9&10 open) so this must be a P1900 issue, right?

I'm going to check my battery this afternoon with my DMM, but this vehicle is 6 months old, so I doubt that's the issue...

Any ideas?

Check System Preferences-->Energy Saver-->"Allow power button to sleep computer".

Make sure it is checked.

Yep, checked that.

I've meticulously checked everything. That doesn't mean I haven't missed something, but...

Any other ideas?

Is this a new issue or has it been happening from day 1 for you?

It really sounds like the jumpers aren't configured correctly (or at least that it thinks they aren't). If you are sure they are correct, contact Mike at CarNetix. I found him incredibly helpful when I set mine up.

Yah, after re-reading the manual, it sounds like the jumpers are set for 'hibernate' instead of 'sleep', though I've checked it several times. Guess I'll check that again in the AM. I posted this over on the Carnetix forum as well, we'll see if that gets me anywhere. If that doesn't work, I'll try emailing Mike directly...

OK, tried a couple more things today...

First, I pulled the dead-man timer jumper, thinking that perhaps a low-voltage situation was occurring just after turning off the vehicle which would cause it shut down as a safety precaution, but that made no difference.

So then I ran the truck for a few minutes then turned it off, measuring the battery's voltage the whole time. While the truck is running, the alternator is putting out a healthy 14.3V, and when the truck is turned off, the battery's voltage drops (as expected) slowly and smoothly to 12.62V and stays there - never comes close to 10.6 (the cutoff voltage listed in the P1900 manual).

If you are sure the jumpers are set correctly, try disconnecting the power input to the Carnetix for a minute or so. Every now and then it gets screwed up and you have to reset it.

Thanks, but I've already done that several times (every time I mess with the jumpers and such I disconnect it entirely for a few minutes while working on it).

I'm puzzled.

Have you checked the Macpac wires to make sure it is sending the shutdown signal to the power button?

I've never checked for it myself! I guess you have to look for both a constant voltage or a pulse.

Hi.

What you should do is while the mac/p1900 is running short the green and black, mac pack cable to simulate the p1900 sending the pulse to sleep/wake the mac.

If this works then you know that the mac pack cable is sound.

All the P1900 is doing is shorting the green to earth IIRC.

Check jumpers.

Sounds like the pulse is too long. I use a 2140, and that seems to be adjustable.
