2008 VW Jetta - Mac Mini Install

Hello mp3Car,

I am looking to install a Mac Mini in my brand new 08 Jetta. I had an 03 Passat with a high end head unit (Pioneer AVIC-D3) but now looking back I wasted a ton of money I could of spent putting a computer in the car.

This will be primarily used for backseat entertainment... I have two kids and want something more then just a dvd monitor slung over the front seat. Also I would like the sound to output through the car stereo for both music and movies.

Mounting a monitor somewhere in the center of the car will be tricky as I have yet to find a good place so suggestions are welcome.

I think using dual LCD headrest monitors may do the trick.. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If it simply for entertainment of back seat passengers, consider an AppleTV to save money.

You can output the sound to an adaptor. Try searching at Crutchfield for a solution. They have car specific adapators. Also, not sure if the Car2PC adaptor works with the new Jetta, but you can take a look at it.

If you want an install for the front seat as well, I'd still consider the AppleTV idea for the back and use the Mini up front as a server.

BugByte - May not be a bad idea with the Apple TV but I have and external Raven for internet browsing .

I tried searching for the car2pc adapter on crutchfield but no luck. Can you shoot me a link to one? Thanks

I am now looking around for some good headrest monitors that will work in daylight as well as carry a decent res.

Thanks again

What do yall think of this price:

700.00 - Two Monitors and installation into the headrests, cables ran for power and video to Mac Mini and power supply, all under warranty.

To much?

Here you go

Are those headrest monitors VGA? If not, how do you intend to convert the VGA signal from the Mini to the headrests? Are you aware that the display will be acceptable for movie watching but fuzzy for other functions?

Also, will you have a monitor up front? If so will it be VGA or RCA? If mixed, how will you split and convert the signal from the Mini? If all VGA, how will you triple-split the VGA signal?
