Well here it goes.
I use a USB GPS receiver ($99) and route 66 ($49). Gpsy is OS9 or classic. I have never used GPS before so I don't know what to compare it to, but it does work as advertised. Gpsy is supposed to be the bomb but until they port OSX I will not touch it.
OSX is very very powerful with many option and will be a great platform for Mobile computing.
"or a mac mobile solution i'd expect the same features already provided by my MS solution:
GPS
Radio (AM/FM)
DVD/SVCD/VCD Playback
MP3/CD audio
Speech Recognition"
Yes all of the above. All but the FM comes bundled with exceptional apps, in my opinion you cannot get a better MP3 player than iTunes.
I'm sad to say at this point in time I think that the windows world has better GPS software (just until gypsy gets moved to OSX) but it works fine with Route 66.
"You could redo a media engine app with the mac visual basic counterpart -- RealBasic. I've had some experience with this software, it seems just as easy as visual basic. If I had more time, I'd dig deeper."
I know nothing of programming, I would like to help in any way possible though, I think that bud_d has some good ideas already.
Salling is a blue tooth app. I can control a million things with it.
When My phone rings it automatically stops iTunes and when I hang up it starts iTunes back up. I can control itunes or DVD or even the mouse with it. You could use your phone for a FULL feature remote to your mobile set up.
It even displays the song on the phone screen. You must have a blue compatible phone first though.
