Would anybody like me to set up a small Mac carputer forum? I run a bunch of forums, wouldn't be difficult and I have no problem doing it, if people will actually contribute information to it...

I would actually perfer if MP3car.com made a section since this is a larger community. most of the hardware that would be used (LCD, GPS, etc.) would have the same basic issues as the PC side. the knowledge and experience with this stuff (mac or pc) is here. most of the other macpc forums suffered the fate of a super small user base that became inactive.

hopefully this site will hear our request out:-)

if osX ist the draw of the machine for you, just throw linux on it and in theory headunit should just compile just fine. yellow dog is now based upon fedora and uses anaconda, mandrake also has a ppc version thats quite mature.

i'd figure it all out but I'm am lacking some serious ppc right now ... perhaps now is a good time to figure out how to install pear pc?

My bad, sage. The length of this thread is making it hard for me to keep track. Thats' why I was asking if people wanted me to set up a board for all the info we can compile

i agree with the new board idea. we could just make it a temp board ... if everything dies down in a couple of months it could be removed ... if it takes off keep it around.

This looks like a great candidate for adding 5.1 Surround Sound to a Mac-Mini!

FireWave's Dolby Digital processors turn your Mac's speakers into a 5.1 Surround Sound system. It plugs into your Mac's FireWire port and features a second input for chaining other devices through it. It's also bus-powered, so it doesn't require a power supply, and it supports OpenAL, the 3D audio standard found in many popular games.

but you generally don't want to use sleep- drains the battery too much, and the mac doesn't have hibernate.

I use sleep in my CarPC and has never been a problem. I have even left for a week and come back with no startup problems.

BTW, sleep on a Mac is more like hibernate on a PC. Which makes the instantaneous wake even more impressive.
