Note on Audio interfaces: I found another external USB soundcard that will work with OSX, the Roland UA-1X. Stereo RCA in/out, Optical out, 1/8" jack out. Would still need a head unit or audio processor, but this is what I plan to use. The best price I've found is here

Updated links. Also updated which projects I am seeing as still active and not active. If you have a project you would like to correctly list or a newer one that has a beta release, please PM me.

Media Central

Can't believe this isn't in your list yet!

Similar to Front End, but free and works on any mac really. Better in many ways, and supports TV as well (which front end doesn't) and handles weirdly codec'd video files better.

http://www.equinux.com/us/products/m...ral/index.html

It is freeware, but everything else by that company isn't.

Can we get Links to the AMP threads added in the initial post under the Front End section? I think it has enough features and a good following to qualify

Thanks,
-dave

Lightbulb

Might be time to update this Sticky.

AMP is now dead, MediaCentral is alive but not very user friendly (IMHO), iTheater and CenterStage are still in their infancy and show no real signs of maturing, Apple's FrontRow works extremely well, if somewhat limiting - but - it can be enhanced with Voice Commands etc.

Parallels Desktop and VMWare Beta are worth mentioning as well as TinyXP to run a decent GPS app. OSX GPS software is non-existent. RouteBuddy for OSX sucks (I bought it with maps ($170) - it sucks) and nothing else exists for OSX. Virtual PC for PPC works well albeit somewhat slowly.

Roland Edirol UA-1EX is an excellent analog line output device for driving car amplifiers with superb quality. Much better than splitting a 3.5mm earphone jack (again, IMHO)

And last but certainly not least, Carnetix 1900 should be mentioned as the power supply of choice.
