Bluetooth Smartphone GPRS connectivity on the Mac?

I own a Powerbook G4 currently, and I'm looking into the Mac Mini as a CarPC platform, but I need to prove a few concepts before I go with a Mac over a PC. The first is GPRS internet connectivity. I have an unlocked Audiovox SMT5600 (Windows Mobile 2003 Smartphone) on the T-Mobile network, and I can browse the net just fine using GPRS.

I'd like to be able, via Bluetooth, to use the the GPRS connection for CarPC internet access any whereever I can get a signal. I can do this very easily on my PC, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it working on the Mac.

I can get the Bluetooth Setup Wizard to recognize the phone, and I can even choose to connect to the internet using my phone. Then I'm asked to choose a modem script. I've downloaded a few generic ones from here, but none of them work. Has anyone been successful in this endeavor?

Well, nevermind - I got it working with the Generic Mobile Phone Script I downloaded from the link in my first post. However, you HAVE to enter a space for the username and password or it fails authentication - weird...

Anyway, ignore this thread...

for the record, the Motorola MPx220 smartphone with GPS also works as a GPRS modem with the iBook G4 and the Powerbook G4 that have built in bluetooth:-)

have you had any luck with having your contacts sync with the address book on Mac? no luck here.

i'm interested in using my O2 mini to work with the GPRS through OSx, can you tell me which scripts you choose? and how to link the smartphone to OSx? i can get the mac to see the phone through bluetooth, do i have to add an seral port to it?

I used this script. You should place the downloaded script in the Library/Modem Scripts folder and restart the computer before using the Bluetooth Setup Wizard. In the wizard, after you've paired the phones, there should be an option to use the phone for internet access. After that, it will ask for a script. Choose "Generic Mobile Phone Script" from the list, and enter the information about your carrier from this page. Good luck!

cool! I will have to remember that when I get stuck. At my office we use tmobile Blackberrys on a Blackberry Enterprise Server with unlimited data so I am trying to work a deal with our t mobile rep to get one of the new 7290 Blackberrys with bluetooth so I can connect my car pc to the internet using the data plan my work pays for!!!!

Saweet. I just switched from a 7280 Blackberry on AT&T to a 7100t on the T-Mobile network. I'll be giving this little ***** a try REAL soon. Thanks for the info.

Oh man I wish I had the new blackberry, the things are SICK! My dad is up for a free phone in March so maybe he'll let me get it

. Let me know how yours is TaylorMade, I'm curious to see how that one preforms cuz I think I'd much rather like the QWERTY keyboard.

Too bad Verizon's EV-DO modem is pc-card only. And that it costs $80 a month. This makes me soo envious of anyone who has one cause theres now coverage almost everywhere in my state.

Well, I've had mine for two weeks now and I love it. One complaint... the battery life SUCKS! I use a bluetooth headset (motorola HS810) and when I travel and use both the blackberry and the phone my battery is half gone in 5 hours. It's hard to really accurately track how long my battery lasts, as I'm not using it the entire 5 hours, I just know that I have to charge it usually twice a day, which is weak.
