Question

No seriously... what DO you do with all that? Let me guess... "same thing we do every night, pinkie...try to take over the world!"
but seriously, I enjoy my student discount, but I would love to reach the level of enjoyment you have attained.

Here's why the student discount is more than the federal one. It is required by law that the government always gets below retail price. They have lots of money though. So the federal discount allows retailers to make enough money, while still obeying the law. Student developers, however... do not have money. The cheaper it is, the more inclined you are to buy it. Not only does this increase sales, but it also ensures that student developers will make some progress... which may later be payed back to the computing world in some way or another. New advancements equals new opportunities to make money. It's all marketing.

I do R&D with NASA. So basically yeah... try to take over the world (or space).

The other way to do this is to click on the apple store, on the right you will see a box titled "More Stores", choose "Education". Select "find your college or university", enter in your zip (or city/state) and select the school you're going to, accept the agreement, and it will set a cookie so everytime you go here, you see the student prices. Mac mini for $479. And you don't have to pay the $99.

I pick and choose if I'm using my fed employee discount program or my student program (since I'm in the navy and taking distance ed, I get both).

My powerbook replacement is actually a bit cheeper under the student program ($1839 w/ governemt and $1799 w/ student), but like he said, the mac mini is only $469 w/ fed employee discount.

EDUCATION DISCOUNT IS NOTHING COMPARED TO DEV. DISCOUNT. Check yer fax first before you say edumacation is good cuz u dont spend $99.... When u save $500, 99 spent aint bad.

With dev discount u should be buying an EXPENSIVE mac and not a friggen mini, to save $ on a mini, goto ebay.

Cheapest Mac Mini I see on eBay is $551 shipped. That's a bit more than $499 from the Apple Store. "Check yer fax first..."

Heheh
