Build your own Mac

Interesting site dedicated to figuring out how to put OSX on any Intel machine.

http://buildyourownmac.com/

Hopefully, Apple will realize that this represents no threat the mainstream sales of Intel Macs and will let hobbyist hack away at their own setups by studiously ignoring the fact that they are doing so.

Yup! There is a bunch of moves on the underground about a possible developer release of OS X on the warez underground, but appears it is a hoax (so far).

It will be interesting to see if this site can get something hacked off the ground. The only problem is I can easily see Apple shutting them down somehow.

I had the emulator from www.pearpc.net on my Intel 3.2ghz HT xeon a few months back, it worked quite well - almost as fast as a old 300mhz G3!

You can run OS X on a Pegasos mainboard (with a lot of work), so you really *can* build your own mac (up to dual G4's anyway), but it's actually cheaper to buy something from apple. The mac mini has pretty close to the power of the highest end Pegasos stuff at like 1/4 the cost.
