Audio issue with Intel Mini

Guys,
I got my Mini working last night, but i'm having an odd audio issue. When the Mini goes to sleep (either from the P1900 or manually) the audio is routed to the internal speaker until I disconnect the line from the headphone jack and reconnect it. The line is connected (via spliters) to my 3 AMPs which are using the delay line from the P1900 to turn them on. As I mentioned, this happens when I manualy (either the button or the Apple Menu option) sleep the system in which case the AMPs stay powered.

I watch the Output tab of the Audio Sys Pref and found that before I put it to sleep it has Line Out selected. When it wakes back up, Internal Speaker is selected and there is no line-out option. When I disconnect the line and reconnect it, Internal Speaker is replaced by Line Out and the audio starts working.

I connected up my Sonica Theater and used it's headphone port for line out, and it seems to be remembering that it is there and stays selected through sleeps.

Anyone else seen this issue and know how fix it?

mine does this on ppc mini very infrequently...the next time it occurs i plan to think about writing a script to set this when is boots or wakes up..just to make sure...this and the powermate goes away.. :-)

It does it every time for me

I thought about a quick script, but the Line Out option isn't even there until I removed the line and plugged it back in.

Thanks for letting me know that it's not just me.

Wonder how Apple Care will respond to "So, i'm having this strange issue when my Mini goes to sleep in my car..."

Does it do it when the mini is plugged in in the house or just in the car? Mine has never done that in the house and I hope it doesnt start when I move it to the car that would suck.

Don't know. I never connected anything up to it inside and I don't think I want to disconnect everything (kind of a pita to hook it all back up again)

hehe so your the opposite of me thus far, ive never hooked it in the car and only in the house

I want to get everything perfect then xfer it to the car.

Yah but then add windows in there for gps and why the heck not through a frontend on the windows side, and youve got quite a bit to work out

GPS = Google Maps + Printer
Frontend = FrontRow + FrontRow Remote (at least for now)

no fixes for this? I'm having the same problem but i think i read somewhere that you bought an external soundcard that hooks up through usb, i would rather just use the onboard sound of the mini, so any fixes?

i really need to find a fix for this, i have to open up my dash and unplug/plugin the audio cable everytime i sleep the mini

I am having the same issues, but mine happens periodically...not all the time. I would say the longer I put the mini to sleep, the better the chance the audio works correctly upon wake-up.

Easier than a dash removal/unplug try a reboot that should do it... not ideal but I am sure less of a pain than getting to that hidden plug!

My mini doesn't do this but the startup bong allways comes over on the Mini's internal speaker... strange... and in XP when the audio cable is plugged in the sound comes over every where (internal and external)...

Mistery, maybe there will be a fix from apple soon...

I am wondering if this issue could be related to the issues that the Palm Treo line has regarding listening to music through headphones vs. the internal speaker. You see, the Treo headphone/handsfree jack has a built-in sensor to detect whether headphones are plugged in or not. It senses this by the amount of resistance on the line. If there is little to no resistance, the Treo plays music through the internal speaker. If there is resistance on the line, such as that provided by headphones, then it diverts the audio to the jack and plays through the headphones.

Many users solved this problem by adding a radioshack in-line volume adjuster and turning it down to about 80% of max volume. The theory is that this provided enough resistance to trick the sensor into always sending audio to the jack, not the speaker. I wonder if this would work for the Mini?
