Help with my intel mini and p1900

Hi,

I just got to testing the mini in my car using the p1900. It started up great with a turn of the key in the ignition. It then went to sleep when I turned the car off. When I tried to wake it again the mini never came out of sleep and the lilliput never turned on. Any ideas??

When you turned the ignition off did you wait 60 sec for the p1900 to get out of shutdown lockout mode before you turned the ignition on again. If you turn the ignition on while the p1900 is in lockout mode the p1900 will not startup. There is also a bootup lockout that stops the pc from turning off before its fully booted.

Here is some info from the p1900 manual, i thought i had the same problem when i first installed my 1900.

5.2.6 Shutdown Sequence State
At the beginning of this state the SSC issues an ACPI (PWRON) strobe to the motherboard. After the ACPI strobe is sent the SSC enters a Shutdown Lockout time period, in which the SSC prevents the PSU from being turned on again. This is to prevent the SSC from issuing multiple ACPI strobes to the CarPC/Mac motherboard while it is shutting down. The Shutdown Lockout time is the same length as the Bootup Lockout time (approx 60 seconds). After the Shutdown Sequence State, the SSC re-enters the Idle State and waits for the ignition switch to be turned on.

Interesting perhaps that is what happened since I only waited about 15 seconds before turning the car back on. Is there a way to shorten that lockout modE? I had a m2-atx and m1-atx and could shutdown and startup within 10 sec if I wanted to.

You will have to use Uflash to change the settings in the firmware. I was thinking bout doing this and even spoke to Mike H about it but after a while i realised the lockout setting was only a problem while testing out my system, it was never a problem durring regular use.

I would concur. It bugged me while I was constantly testing while I reassembled everything, but since it all got back together I only had it happen once (stall and had to turn it off and back on) and I just reached in and woke it up manually.

Well I tried it today. Counted to 1 1thousand 2 1thousand etc and it turned off roughly at 50. The thing is the fan ran this entire time, mini was sleeping by about 10 1thousand, and after 50 the entire powersupply shutdown, mini light went off, fan stopped on the powersupply. Now when I went to turn the car back on the lcd lit up and the mini did not boot. I waited about 30 seconds and finally pressed the power button on the mini and it loaded into osx. I was able to duplicate this scenario 3 times. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: No usb devices plugged in at all during this testing.

Have you double checked your jumper settings? I don't remember for sure, but I think there is one that could cause something like this (though i'm surprised it is sleeping the Mini first).

Ok I found out it was the jumper set for hibernate now I set it for sleep. The mini went to sleep no problem. I am having a new issue now though, the mini did not survive an engine crank, the p1900 shutoff when I turned on the car. Any ideas?? I triple checked all jumper settings and they are correct now.

Where is the p1900 getting it's juice from? How about it's ignition lead?

It should be connected directly to the battery (I tapped into the power lines for my AMPs). Also make sure you are running good enough cable from the battery to the p1900 (8 gauge should be fine unless you are also power a couple of AMPs off the same line, then you might want to up it to 4 guage to a block and then run 8 from the block to the units).

I hooked my ignition lead to the lead from the bundle that used to be connected to my head unit (was already running wires from there, so it was the simplest).

Also, have you tested your battery? I guess it could be that the strain of cranking is dropping it below the level where the p1900 cuts off to save your battery (but the p1900 itself should still be on and give you a indication with it's LED).

If none of that helps, try the forums on Carnetix's site and/or ping Mike.

I think it was just a fluke. I left the mini in sleep all night in the car and came out this morning and she powered on perfectly. Now a new issue There is horrible and I mean horrible interferance in the audio when it comes back from sleep until I press play on frontrow. This also happens when the mini is booting up, until it gets into osx, then the noise goes away (well not completly ie I turn the volume up to max on the headunit and I can hear a tiny hum). What could possible do something like this? I would think if a groundloop it would always happen, but it only happens if:

A: Mini is first booting from cold boot
B: Mini woke up from sleep, before I press play in frontrow

I have my aux-in for the headunit, which runs through a relay grounded at the same point as the ground for the p1900.

Again any help would be greatly appreciated I am almost there now I can see the hill now I just need to climb to the top and roll my *** down hehe.

Sounds like a loop to me. Try picking up an isolator from Radio Shack (<$5 I think) and see if that helps. If it does, you can either leave it in or try fixing the grounding.

Just because both items are grounded at the same location does not mean that the location itself is a good one. You might need to move it around to find a better spot. Also make sure your ground leads aren't too long from either device, if they are that can cause the issue too (I know sub 12" is the rule of thumb for AMPs).

Where is your relay getting it's power? If it is off the internal system rather than the battery, grounding it and the p1900 at the same point (or close to each other) could be a bad idea.

What happens when you run straight to your AUX-In and skip the relay? (if no issues there, i'd say separate the grounds)

relay gets its power from the cig lighter in the car. I am using that same power to be the yellow ign on for my p1900. The p1900 is wired direct to the battery for its power (red wire). Also my car doesnt normally have aux in, I had to do a mod and put the relay inline with the headunit to allow for aux in.

EDIT: here is the aux in mod I did. http://clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215793

I snuck outta work and ran over to radioshack across the street and purchased thier groundloop isolater, it was 16.99 btw Great news is I tested it and it seems to have removed almost all the noise but not everything. Something new has cropped up which I remember someone else mentioning, the sound output on the mini is kinda low. I have frontrow cranked all the way up, the main mini volume cranked to the top, and my headunit almost all full blast and the sound is still kinda low. Louder than girl would like to hear but not loud enough for me. Does the mini need a line level amp? If so what would a good one be?
