RX-8 Mac Mini Edition
It's been interesting to read abt the Macs in the Porsche 944 and Toyota MR2.
I'm also currently working on my Mac Mini project.
Here are some pics:
Still undecided which frontend to use, but for now, FrontRow is not that bad.
The LCD was replaced by a Lilliput 7" TS.
Still needing a GPS software.

Looks great! Is that the stock Navi screen that you can get in the RX8?

Ah, yes....bad phrasing on my part...
My question is - is that the stock navigation housing that comes as an option on the car? Was it a bear to drop a 7 inch into it?

Yes, it's the OEM housing that's an option on RX8's. Took 3 mths just to order that damn thing. There's a lot of space in there for most touchscreen LCDs and their PCBs.

I like how the stock LCD on the Volvo XC90s comes up to view and disappear down into the dash. Wonder if you could get one and implant it in your car.

Did you just order the Navi housing or something from the factory - or did you actually buy the option ($3000+) for navigation to come with the car?
If you did just get the housing, how much was it, and was it bought just straight through a dealer, or some other vendor?

I ordered just the housing with the stock LCD that I removed and replaced with the Lilliput TSV. Where I'm located(Singapore), there's no option for the Nav, cos I don't think Navteq has support for Singapore maps.

I got the housing for abt US$1200(not cheap!), from a local car parts dealer. I could get it airfreighted(few days) but that would cost me extra $200-300. I'd rather wait 3 mths, I could plan out what other stuffs to do and do some wirings.

Nice car, I'm currently doing a '06 Mazdaspeed6 Mac Mini Carputer. If you have an intel mac you can load windoze on it and theres a really great Road Runner RX-8 Skin. (ya, I know, most people don't buy macs to run windows)

Yes, an intel Mac Mini. Was actually thinking of running bootcamp for GPS Navigation, unless a good software comes along for OSX. Where do you intend to fix an LCD and are you gonna stick to the OEM HU?

Ok, tried disconnecting the mouse and my touchscreen still wouldn't work.
It's a Lilliput 7" and it's on the Intel Mac Mini. Driver installed, but touchscreen not detected. Any suggestions?

I'm putting the LCD where the stock map pocket was, I've built it up and have begun motorizing it with 2 hobby servo's, I'm sticking with the OEM head unit thus far because I like the looks, using an AUXMOD to direct sound threw it.
