I will be buying a copy too for the same reason - so they keep the project going. It is mentioned on their forum that they wanted to release it early without all the features just to give people a taste of what they are doing. My Mini Mac arrives tomorrow so I will download it a see how it runs up to this point. The feature I will be waiting on is voice directions. I write software so I know it takes a long time to code and debug an application. It will be awhile for RouteBuddy to come to life.

I don't know much about the logistics behind release cycles, but I wonder if it's "ok" to charge people for a product that you know is pretty "feature-less." For everything they were advertising, I was hoping it would be "the solution" for in-car navigation. I hope they continue development and it turns into that.

If it turns into that, I'll integrate it in a second and really push for people to purchase it for use with front-ends (oh, you know, such as AMP)

I was much more optimistic on this once I went and read the forum. Its always a tough call on a new product. Do you release it early to get people excited and contributing feedback but risk turning people off with its warts, or do you keep it under wraps until its really ready and hope everybody likes it? In this case I think they are getting a lot of good feedback on what it needs to be useful to the people who are likely to actually buy it, so hopefully thats a good thing. At the same time, $150 after maps does seem a bit steep for something that is still missing a lot of functionality. Here's hoping they make this as kickass as it could be!

I'm glad to see them update it, but it's a little disingenious to say it has road level routing. What it says on their web site is you can click on the points on the map and upload them to your GPS device, then your GPS device provides the turn by turn directions!

Let's see....and the point of route buddy is....? Anyone? Anyone?

I'm being unfair, of course. They've said they're working on it for a future release, but I think maybe they need to hold back on the hyperbole a little bit.

It is a good news to finally have someone trying to do a real navigation system for Macinstosh. I have been waiting a long time for it. I hope you will reach this goal soon.

While waiting, I have a simple question.

I live in canada and I see that you sell maps for Canadian too :-) Good, but I would like to know if it is possible to use the maps with other software. For example: RoadNav

RoadNav offer many (not all) of the option I am looking for in a navigation system. I would like to know if I could buy the map and then use it with RoadNav while I wait for your next version.

I really whish for you to succeded in building the best and the easiest navigation program there is.

I have many suggestion like: Have an option for map zooming that is proportionnal to vehicule speed. That would be great.

RouteBuddy Maps are proprietary to RouteBuddy and cannot be used in any other software.

If you are using RoadNav in your car for navigation, say with a Mac Mini, then have no fear we will get there as soon as possible. This is one of the things RouteBuddy has been built for and I can't wait to get a Mac'd ride in my car
