Mac Mini in a Jag

Hi, I am planning a Mac Mini in an XJ40 Jag. Its going to go in the glove box. Does it need a cooling system in such a confined area, and also I presume its ok to be at any angle...?

thanks

It OUGHT to be okay at any angle. You should give it a way to exhaust air somehow, though. During those hot days, locking it up inside a glove compartment could cause it to overheat.

You could do what I did with mine when I was concerned about overheating. I used the temperature monitor lite application and monitored the temp. It has autoshutdown settings if the Mini gets too hot. Mine has run at 135F without problems.

My mini runs at near vertical when the glove box is closed... I've had no problems with it.

Also, cases like this...

Are designed with a non-normal orientation in mind. You should be just fine...

excellent thanks. I just thought that the comp being at a slight angle (not horizontal or vertical) may cause a disk to not spin properly. When I get mine, I'll test it. The Mac is going to cost more than the car...!

As far as angle, at any version of 180, 360, or 90 you should be fine (i.e. flat or on a side). Other angles *could* be an issue, but with the 2.5" drive you are *probably* ok.

As far as heat, make sure it has air flow. My space did not and I have since had to add vents and fans to help with the summer heat (not that it was a big deal or anything). In my case, the Minis fans were kicking on full blast and staying that way for my 10 - 20 minute commute in the evenings. As long as it is running long enough that the fans slow back down, you are probably ok. If, like me, there is not enough time for the Mini to cool itself off then you probably have an issue.
