Hibernate on Macs WORKS

Hey

I've been posting a lot of questions here, but haven't given a lot of answers , so here is something for people who'd like to hibernate their macs in a car, it seems to be a good pairing with P1900 since it will not draw any current from your battery. On a 1.6ghz dual core Mac mini it goes to hibernate in less than 10 seconds and it will come back from it in 15-20 seconds. These are just estimates didn't really time it.

All you need to do is install this software:

Of course this is only recomended for "newer" Macs. So everything 1ghz+ should work on both Intel and PowerPC platforms.

I tried using the hibernate software on my PPC Mini under 10.4. It worked inside but each time it restored itself in the car, I would get the black screen of death requiring a reboot. Usually on the Mac, my experience has been that this is a USB issue, but I don't know for sure. I had an unpowered hub and GPS installed that I hadn't previously used with hibernate.

Hi Bugbyte,

is the Mac mini displaying something on the screen after waking up? As I had a Mac mini in my car, I had also a problem with the screen. Anytime when the Mac mini wokes up and the TFT was switched on, the Display couldn't sync with the Mac. When I switched off an on again the TFT, it worked. It seems that the Mac min has problems to detect the right display data.

No, it wakes up from hibernation normally. The screen comes on and you can see the desktop in the background with the progress bar. The progress bar fills from left to right as it comes out of hibernation. Then, the desktop brightens, the progress bar goes away, and everything looks completely normal for 3-5 seconds.

Then, the black screen of death appears, informing you that you must restart your Mac.
