Resolution?

I am just finishing up my install of a Mac Mini and a MM400 screen (the CarTFT one). I am planning on using AMP, which I think the developer has done a great job on.

Can anyone tell me how to get the optimal resolution set for this screen. The specs say that the native res is 800 x 480 but I know that is not in the standard resolutions available on the Mini. At the moment I have the desktop appearing off centre with a black band appearing at the top and right of the screen. I need someway of centering it and expanding the desktop to fill the screen.

I know there are some apps called DisplayConfigX and SwitchRes but to be honest I am not sure what any of the parameters mean so I just need an idiots guide.

Thanks for the pointer Bugbyte - now I feel a little silly for having missed it! I am now posting in that thread to avoid having too many different ones. Got along quite well with it but I can't the new 800 x 640 to "stick" as the default one.
