I'm not to sure how big this company are, but you can probably safely assume that if they were really that upset about it then they would have sent more than a few emails.

Probably what has happened is that an employee has stumbled across the site and brought it to his boss's attention. Therefore they send a few emails, then forget about it since they are more interested in other markets.

Now, why not just as a test, someone hack the PDA version of all its' security features, then allow people to download it from a website...........

See if you get an email.

Despite this I don't blame NM for being cautious!

Both emails were read by them... no response though. Very rude they never complained about me BUYING the product. I also emailed them last week and got nothing back either.

God - who thought it would be so hard to BUY some thing from some one... no wonder companies don't get any where - they don't want the business....

Least MS got it right

Terran AHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Correction it is hard - just come off the phone with one of our ( works ) prefered supplier - will take on half the work but the rest of it is too small.... what is this world comming to ? Don't ask me I'm not intrested

It is a sad thing to see. I bought D2 a few years back waiting for D3 that was supposed to come out a few weeks afterward and I'll get a discount since I just bought the D2. If I knew they scrap D3 for PC, I'll just return D2 as it's not what I want. Switching maps while traveling in one state is not fun.

It's a shame too. Their software is like one of the Thousands that support SiRF and works pretty good.

I guess I'll keep my business with iGuidance from now on and recommend all my friends and family to buy iGuidance for PC and PPC.

I have just sent this mail to them.... please read - I hope you agree. If you do see the text at the end of this page.

Quote:
Dear both,

As some one who supports Destinator in a big way, having made direct recommendations and mentions to both readers of two magazines ( one can be seen on my site ) and in a up coming book to be released shortly I was disappointed when you guys announced plans to stop developing the PC version of D3 - in fact any further PC versions.
While NM should not have used the 'cracked' version of the DLL it did give a way for us registered users to upgrade and move forward in an area HSTC had clearly announced you where not interested - then when the MapMonkey came out you suddenly found interest again – I wonder why, is it because it was actually very good ? To be fair MapMonkey is the product that D3 should have been and in my opinion you should look at some way to bring back the PC aspect of your software.

Be that as it may - it would be nice if you as a company who own the 'rights' to the DLL in question provide a legal way for others to upgrade to the MapMonkey software rather than just saying... "well you can't do that... oh and you can't buy it either" which does not seem a sensible approach to the situation.

I will post this in the http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...3&page=1&pp=15 thread for everybody to see. It would be nice if you can make some kind of official statement - preferably “this is how you buy a licence pack and Maps”, bearing in mind it probably would not take that much for you to add this to your online shop…. Think of the money and notoriety in this up and coming field – lets face it NM has done the hard work for you, those of us out here that are genuine WANT to buy a licence to continue support for what most would agree is the best product in this field – with out this option you only corporately invite others to ‘find’ ways around the system

To the forum

We all know that we could probably find the DLL on the net and the maps as well how ever what is the point ? This is an ideal opertunity to show again to PL that we do want to buy this … and this means every body. I would like to think that the vast majority in the MM forum are genuine and would lend their voice to this cause rather than leeching very good software which will be some how stopped in the future… come on… lets face it PL won’t just leave the situation will they ?

To all others who agree to this email please send an email Entitled “FAO Andreas & Dennis DeCoste - D3 PC & Mapmonkey” to info@destinatoreurope.com, & info@hstcglobal.com – If I can I will publish ( with their permission ) their direct address’s

Terran

OK These are the emails I have sent to PowerLOC/ THSC/ Destinator (whatever they are called) as in the last week after seeing this thread I wanted to get something sorted with them

Email 1:
Quote:
To: 'support@destinator1.com'
Sent: Wed 26/01/2005 11:15
Subject: Registration Problems

Hello I am having problems registering my product to access the Destinator Communities.

It is asking for a device ID which I do not have as I don not have a Pocket PC device I only have a PC and have bought Destinator to use with the SDK.

I have my registration code if you need it.

Please get back to me soon.

Hello Steve,
With the SDK you can create applications for both the PPC and PC. However you need to have a running version of Destinator to operate the application you have created. Currently Destinator only has a PPC version. We do not have a PC version at this time. You can use the SDK to create the application for the PC and use the sample map provided to test things out.
Regarding registration, without the device ID registration can not be completed. I will communicate with our support team to see if there is anything we can do and will get back to you shortly.
Thank you
Rafiq

Right... so nothing more after email 1 from him!

Onto Email 2: Going at a different angle...

Subject: SDK software development for Car PC

Hello,

I am a licensed user of your product "Destinator 3" for the UK and I am eager to develop applications for the expanding In Car PC market which is set to take off over the next 12 months.

The software I am looking to develop would be given away by myself for no charge but require a Destinator 3 license and Destinator maps, as your website says.

I have been reading on the internet about this SDK and looking at work others have done, and been led to believe that the PC version of the SDK is 'crippled' to prevent it working on the PC platform.

My main questions are:

* How does one go about licensing the D3 SDK for use on PC legally
* How does one go about making available a product utilising the Destinator engine that solely requires the user to go out and buy your product then download my 'PC add on' to use and additionally how can I ensure that only legal users can use the software.
* Will I be able to have a copy of the SDK without paying $50 to download it as the only organisation who will benefit from me making software for use with your product is your company as every user would have to buy your software to make it work

Response... Almost a week later...

Dear Steve,

We are currently investigating how we can accomodate your requirements and will get back to you on this very soon.

Best regards,
Klaus

Director Business Development Telematics

So the above it more positive than the other...

But before I recieved this from him I sent another one to both EU and US Destinator SDK email addresses...

Email 3:

Sent: Sun 30/01/2005 21:52
Subject: Map Monkey Destinator SDK required
Hello,

I am a licensed user of Destinator 3 (can supply key if required)

I would like to be able to use this software: http://www.mapmonkey.net/ which is based on Destinator and need a proper non-demo SDK to use the full size maps I have purchased to use with this. I would also like to make my own software to help drive PC sales for this product.

I emailed last week but have had no reply, please could someone get in touch ASAP. I know that it is possible to simply hex edit a ‘demo’ SDK to get the product I have PAID for to work but would much rather have the proper SDK to use.

Also I am unable to activate my product to get my device ID to register for the Destinator community.

Regards,

Steve

No reply from that one above as yet... But both US and EU read it...

Nice to know they read it first thing the next morning but couldn't be bothered to even say 'we're looking into it'

I'm wondering if emailing the info@ as well will be overkill? If you want me to terran I'll be happy to LOL.
