Media Engine 2.0 Teaser...
I figured I have left you guys in the dark long enough... Media Engine has seen some serious revisions and improvements in the past few weeks. Here is a small list of things that have been changed / added / plan to add...
Automatic updating / self generating ADO Jet music database with background processing. (Browse by artist / genre / playlist / file system layout / etc..)
New ID3 generation system.
Mix movies and music in same directory
Built in "ftp style" playlist creator.(in the works)
Built in DVDROM player.
Support for most movie formats, plus the ability to add new ones on the fly if you want.
Ability to support any music format (so long as winamp plays it).
Play VCDs (in the works)
Play Movies / music audio off CD Rom.
New Version of winamp (2.9 vs. 2.8).
Better Visualization support (in the works).
Drop shadowed lists for better visibility on low res monitors
Unlimited external apps (in the works)
Modularized internal code.
Better / different error handling.
More skin customizations.
Known "bugs" fixed (overlapping text, album art bug etc..)
Is that enough?

You guys are making this thing awesome!!!!
As I said before with the new Ver. I am definately converting over to ME...
One question though...Will the album cover images be pulled from the ID3 tag??? If not could it, PLEASE!!!! There are other plug-ins that do this so I know it can be done...
One other thing...WinAMP is at Ver. 2.91.

Great!!
I have been since yesterday trying the program... works great and it is what i've been looking for for several months.
I would like to make some sugestions for features.
1. I have noticed that my winamp DSP plugin does not work (it's enhance MP3) and i would realy like it to work 'cause it realy improves the sound. (would it work if i install it to the same dir as media engine?)
2. I have seen that some other users have been requesting support for the Packard Bell Fast Media remote... It would be very nice because it is a good cheap remote.
I would like to know if there's a manual for the Media Engine...and what are the minimum hardware requirements for a decent performance (my mp3box is a 200Mhz MX with 32MB ram running DOS 2.22 and MPXPLAY, which i'm now planning to migrate to win98 and Media Engine).
Thanks for such a great program.

I take it the old skins will be compatable ?
Any chance of some kind of wide screen option for the interface its self as well ? Not sure if that could be done.
Keep up the excellent work.

As for those DSP plugins, the answer is not quite so simple.. First of all, I only include the DirectSound output plugin with the program. If you want, download winamp 2.x whatever from their website and install it to the C:\ProgramsFiles\winamp directory. Then, goto c:\programfiles\winamp\plugins. Copy everything in that dir (not copy the dir, but copy the contents). Paste them into the c:\mediaengine\plugins directory. Then, open winamp and select the "wave out" output plugin. Now try your DSP plugin. It should work.
Be warned... I have done this and it has maxed out the volume on first run, so be careful.

Great Stuff.
So far Media Engine is great and getting even greater. I'm glad my Creative remote works now.
Keep up the good work.

I second the notion of the PB Remote support!
Just wondering, Jes380, What DSP plugin do you use?

Had thought today while driving - it would be nice if one or two of the apps could be set to auto start - ie GPS software after the ME interface after a set amount of time ie 5,10,15 secs for slower PCs. That way if you use that app 90% of the time you don't even have to touch the screen.
Yes you can do it via the OS but I - like others ( I think ) plan to use ME as the shell..... Just a Thought. Keep us with out co-pilot happy ?

Re: Cliff
Cliff: I use Enhance MP3, which is a discontinued software from enhancedaudio.com called Enhance/MP3, but it is the best DSP pluggin ive found The demo version works only for ten days, but since they dont sell or support the program anymore, i guess you could try to find other ways to make it work permanently... if you know what i mean (BTW... i did purchase the licence for $10). you can still download it from some sites (try winamp.com or search Google). About the remote, im now using it without problems with Girder 3.2.... you will probably spend a couple hours tweeking it but it's worth it. or if you want me to pass the girder groups files to you i will be glad to help...
Cheers.

Thanks for the info...yeah thats what im currently doing with the PB remote, using girder to emulate keystrokes. it would just be better to run ME as a shell then have to load girder every time ya boot up IMO.
