Question How to use extra/different plugins

I posted a question, a while back, about poor quality audio imaging, using ME. The general response was that the mini-ITX sound card was rubbish, and I should buy a "this card" or "that card". I ended up buying an Audigy 2, and fair play, the sound is better. Trouble is, it's still not very good.

So, after much playing with Winamp 2.8 native (without the ME front end) I've found that by using a couple of different plugins (MAD and SSIO), the sound is HUGELY better. I mean, CD vs tape quality level of improvement!!!

So, I now need to get ME to use the same plugins for mp3-input and audio-output. I've managed to get ME to use the plugins, simply by removing the original input/output DLL's and putting the new DLL's into the Plugins\ directory. But, I can't configure the settings.

Any suggestions on how I do this? Do I setup Winamp to the settings I want, copy the details out of winamp.ini and put them into the ME .ini file?

Help!

I believe, from my basic playing around, ME uses the settings in winamp.ini. I can't actually see a ME .ini file...so I can't put any settings there! Unless you're talking about settings.ini, in which case, there is nothing about Winamp in there!

If it's not using the right output plugin...try renaming the output plugin you want to use as out_ds.dll, and rename that original file to something like out_ds.old, so you can change back easily

media engine uses its own copy of winamp. Load the winamp.exe from the media engine directory, loaded with your plugins, and make your changes accordingly. You can set the EQ levels and such and once saved they will load with ME.

Hope this helps.

you might also want to try a line driver to increase the voltage of the computers output, and to get good SQ a DSP unit or if money is no object a Audio Control DQT (setreo EQ and DSP)

Sorry buddy - you missed the point. I can get the PC-car sounding sweet - almost as good as the P9 (and believe me - that's good!) I just can't get MediaEngine to sound as good!

Anyway, you're supposed to be setting up a 12v power supply for your PC - get on with your work

ME has nothing to do with it. Like the other poster said setup the winamp in the ME directory. NOT your main winamp if you have one installed.

globbits, also ME 2.0 is now usiing windows media player 9.0 so if you get good sound out of that by default then you won't need to tweak it anymore once 2.0 comes out
