ME 2.0 Official Bug Reports

The other threads were getting a little full + off topic, let's have an official one here.

Please take these steps before submitting:
1) READ ALL THE BUG REPORT THREADS! The solution might already be here. DO NOT POST DUPLICATE BUG REPORTS unless you can add articulate information relevant to the bug.

2) If you haven't already, go to http://mediaengine.org and download the latest binaries, mediaengine.exe and DB_UPDATE.exe; links for which can be located in the news section under the 2.0 Bugfix heading at http://mediaengine.org. Save these in your program directory (you should be asked if you wish to overwrite the existing files). The most current version of the mediaengine.exe binary is 2.0.27 and DB_UPDATE.exe is at 1.0.8. Check after install that you have this version by looking at the file properties in explorer.

3) Read the readme.txt file located in your MediaEngine 2.0 program directory.

4) Try deleting your settings.ini file and also your tags.mdb file just to be sure there wasn't a funky setting saved or a corrupted database record.

What to include:
*Bug report in consice language - "it doesn't work!", "it's soo slow!" or "i wanted (some) feature" doesn't help us, nor will it help you. The more detail you can give us, the quicker we'll be able to find the problem.

*What type of input device (mouse, touchscreen, remote, keyboard) you're using

*Steps to reproduce, if possible

*Text from any error messages you might be seeing

*Steps you've taken (if any) to resolve

*Lines from debug.log that may be relevant

*Screen captures if absolutely necessary

*Brief description of your pc config, speed, memory, os, etc.

Okay I don't know if this is a bug or not but I am going to throw it out there any way. Coming out of "standby", Irman control does not work. If I go into the settings and disable and then enable it, it will work again. It will also work if I exit ME then run it again. Is there a way to make ME re-enable the Irman after coming out of standby?

One thing fixed.
Choosing Hibernate instead of shutdown is a nice option.
One thing broken.
Volume forces itself to 0% volume buttons and updown arrows on track/album listings don't work.

Spec Epia M10000 Nehmiah, DigitalWW USB touch panel, 512meg ram XP Pro SP1 has the same problem when used as application and shell.

No error message, no listing of consequence in the log, just lack of function to the two sets of up/down(in volume) buttons

No, there's nothing in the readme about the IRMAN, but any time your IRMAN is powered down it must be initialized in order to work. If we could find some way to know when windows is resuming from standby/hibernation we could probably fix that one. Of course one could equally fault the IRMAN for it's need for a port initialization message before responding.

FYI, the creative remote's receiver requires no initialization at all.

Does the program run now? What are the symptoms? You mention another thread, but you never let us in on what thread, or what symptoms you're actually seeing. Fscking christ people, read the beginning post and ATTEMPT TO ARTICULATE THE PROBLEM SO WE DON'T HAVE TO READ YOUR MINDS. Installing and uninstalling is a completely different realm than the application's workings, and we really have no time to mess with problems with InstallShield right now. Incidentally, uninstalling / reinstalling is mostly a futile waste of time.

Here's how to manually uninstall / reinstall the app without ever invoking Add/Remove Programs.

1) Run unregger.exe in the program directory
2) Deleting all the .ini, .lst and .m3u files in your program directory
3) Delete tags.mdb
4) Double click mediaengine.exe and it will prompt you about registering the activex exes three times

Sorry that didn't make it into the readme - it should have.

While listening to music and running Copilot, the current song that is playing will finish and the next song will not start untill Copilot quits. Thanks for the info about the Irman.

Nothing, the installer should have prompted you about that, but I haven't tested the build personally on a box w/o wmp9.

What is at the beginning of the thread is a request for clear consise information about your setup, so we don't have to fill this thread up will bull***** question and answer sessions. I'm a busy person and I figure if you can spend 2 minutes typing to save me 2 hours of asking questions and then waiting on a response, it seems a fair trade for everyone. The only reason we wanted a bug report thread here is so other ppl who might be having the same problems can read it and find out quickly if the issue is resolved or being handled. If you want a question and answer session, drop into #mp3car sometime.

I'm unable to start my IRMAN device in the IR configuration tab.

I'm using an IRMAN with a Pioneer remote. It worked fine with the previous ME and the remote works with IRServer software so its basically ME 2 which is having trouble starting it.

OK, just a quick update.

Tried it upping the volume, and tried scrolling through albums with the keyboard.
That works fine. Not as convenient as the touchbuttons but it works.

Mappoint as an External app, and Playing MP3s, if you select the external APP, section directly from the music screen, the music continues.

Haven't been able to check whether songs will continue after the current one ends yet, as I just did a test to make sure it keeps playing.

After running ME2, closing it (using it as a desktop app not a shell ATM) and restarting it, it remembers volume control, without the safe volume resume being checked. Nice.
After hibernating from the shutdownbutton (nice feature, nice to see a request option implemented) and resuming, the volume is correctly set still.

That helps narrow it down. This is really odd however since touchscreen buttons obviously work for most ppl. I'm going to pmsg you some questions about your setup and / or have CarComp work with you as he's had more experience dealing with the touchscreen options.

We're not terribly concerned with whether music continues with external apps running, the fact that you can get it to keep playing by loading external apps from the touchscreen button is actually a bug, hence the other post about someone having problems at the track end. When the gps enabled M/E comes out you'll be able to swap to gps and back w/o stopping the music.

Now if we can just tackle this touchscreen volume issue. I wonder if this could be related to your touchscreen calibration. Were you using a previous version of M/E before this release? Are you able to click on objects on that side of the screen on the windows desktop?

Make sure you don't have another process running that's holding the port open. If you exit M/E while the database is rebuilding, the program will remain resident until all the associated threads have released (i.e. the database update proggy).

The fact that you're seeing multiple entries in the log indicate that the application that's running in the backgound is in a loop. Guess what happened when i just tried launching M/E twice? You guessed it. Look for a fix for this later tonight or monday, but in the mean time just make sure all instances of mediaengine.exe are shut down.

WOHOOO its working

Like you say it looks like it was the IRServer software which auto loads every time. I've closed this and M/E now accepts my remote control!

Looks like it actually worked sometimes with IRServer running as it has worked previously.

Cheers for your help!! and a brilliant piece of car software now!
