Windows 2000 Not Coming out of Hibernation

I have a quick question. I am using Windows 2000 Pro and MediaCar
and when the system goes into hibernation I can not get it
to come out of hibernation without first pushing the power button.
Shouldnt there be a setting to get hibernation to come out
by moving the mouse? I can't find it. Does anyone have a solution.

Welcome to the forums!

You are mixing up Hibernate with Suspend/Standby.

Hibernation takes all the data that is in memory, and writes it to the hard drive, then switches off the power completely. You then turn the power back on, and it will resume Windows to where it was previously.

Standby/Suspend will just turn off most devices, but keep power to memory, to hold the data. If you lose power to the memory, then all the data will be gone, and you will have to load Windows fresh again. With Hibernate, you can unplug the power and the next time you plug power back in it will still be fine

Thank you for your help. Here is the problem I am having.
My Carputer is running on a Laptop. When it suspends or hibernates
nothing brings it out of hibernation/suspend but the power button.
Because the laptop power button is not reachable to me
while I am driving/ (the laptop is in the trunk) how do
I get it to resume without hitting the power button?

I've got the same problem on my thinkpad T23 laptop. I've finally decide to splice into the PW button on the port repl. so I can wake it from hibernation. Not sure how long the battery will last with sleep mode. Now when my car is turn off it goes to battery mode and after 3 min of inop it goes into hibernation.

I havent looked into it much at all, but a comport modem that support wake on ring? then you only need to open the modem and not the docking station or pc

first idea of my project was using a thinkpad too..

i searched a lot for using WOR (wake on ring) or start on power.. (or WOL)

-if you like to simulate a original phone-call, you need a 70V signal.. hard to built device! (for me..) or if you wanna try to wake up by simulating a external modem on COM port.. you have to switch a low/high signal on pin 1 and 2 of COM port! but this was also too hard for me..

-start on power doesn't exist for laptops.. i never seen a laptop with that bios feature!!

-simulating a WOL signal would be hard as ***!! you have to create a magic-packet with MAC address by using only a electronical device..

sure you can use a docking station and if there's a power button you can cut the cable and make a button in dash!
but i don't like this solution..

the same problem is how to start laptop with ignition?? you could use a relay that's connected to the same button..

now i wanna use a ITX mainboard fix built in behind my glove compartment!

i know..
you don't have problems with running pc without car battery and you don't have to leave laptop in car.. you have to decide! good luck..
