Voodoo Voice and MediaCar

Do these two work together. I am under the impression that they don't becasue i installed Voodoo Voice 2.0 into the Plugin directory of MediaCar. Then i Run Winamp 5 in the root MediaCar directory and when i try to configure the plugin nothing happens.

Any help?

Well I guess i answered my own question. I installed the Voodoo Voice plugin in both the MediaCar winamp and a stand alone version of winamps plugin directory.

The plugin installs correctly but when you go to configure it, nothing happens so i assume that it doesn't work. If anyone has gotten this to work let me know

This is a very cool plug in!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to dig into it. I was already starting to check into ViaVoice ( i already own a copy..) For those that don't know it is a plug in for winamp that you can control by speaking. Here is the web site.
Voodoo Voice

OK. I tried it and it works great! When you install it you must specify a different install directory than the default. Media Car installs into the Program files directory by default so if you have not changed it, the install path will be..... C:\Program Files\MediaCar\Plugins
I tried the version 1 but I am running XP and the 2.0 worked better. I am having a little trouble with the voice command "play something by <artist>" I may have to do a little voice training.

I will have to try it in the truck now. I have a lot of back ground noise so it my not work in there.

Here are a few of the voice commands from the documentation.

begin play
stop play
next song
switch to The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist
play something by The Avalanches
set volume 60 percent

Wow... You got it to work...

Let me tell you what happens when i install it and maybe you can help me.

*I download the plugin
*I install under the C:\Program Files\MediaCar\Plugins
*I open up winamp (double click on winamp.exe in the media car directory)
*I go to configure the plugin by Options-->Preferences-->Plugins-->General Pourpose. I highlight the Voodoo Voice plugin
*I click on the configure button

Nothing happnens???

How do you configure it? How do you do the voice training?

Where did i go wrong? Is there something else that i have to install? Can anyone help?

if you installed version 2 there is nothing you can configure in the plug- in only version 1 does that. It looks like Kevin, the guy that coded this, quit working on the project about mid 2002. if you want to adjust the speech recognition settings, just goto the speech icon in the control panel. if you want to tweak the commands, edit this file in note pad:
C:\Program Files\MediaCar\Plugins\Voodoo Voice\Default\default.psn

Below is a samle of the text in the file. for examlpe if you want the computer to respond to another name, just adjust "WakeupCmd computer"
to what you want, and save it. then restart media car.
if you want to call the computer Jonny the make it read.

WakeupCmd jonny

PHP Code:
Name        Default
Description    Default Voodoo Voice personality
Directory
default

WakeupCmd    computer
BEGIN
    WAKEUP
    PLAYWAV wakeup
.wav
END

Command        begin play
BEGIN
    PLAY
    RANDOM
        PLAYWAV goize1
.wav
        PLAYWAV goize2
.wav
    END
    SLEEP
END

well I CAN get the "switch to <song>" and the "play something by <artist>" to work. But only in winamp and not MediaCar. these 2 commands only work on what is currently in the play list. I wish I was better at programing so I could figure it out!

I figured out how to get the "switch to <song> and "play something by <artist>" to work in both MediaCar and Media Engine. Let me know if you want to know how. It is SO FREAKIN' COOL!!!!

Would anyone be interested if I expanded this app to control other things in MediaCar? Things like "open XM Radio" or "Open Navigation". I am not sure that I can pull it off, but I feel like I should contribute to all the hard work going on here.

i'd be very interested in hearing about this ... let me know what you find.

i was thinking it'd be great to hookup one of the voice command packages so i could enter GPS destinations without the keyboard ... etc.

OK, you guys double check the procedure for me to make sure I covered all my bases. If it looks good I will make a new post so everyone will know what it is.

1. First click Here to download VooDoo Voice. Warning! It is large, 46.5MB.
2. Make sure MediaCar is installed and working.
3. Run the VVoice20Alpha.msi file you downloaded.
4. Change the install location to “C:\Program Files\MediaCar\Plugins\”
5. continue the install with the defaults.
6. Click close when it is finished.

At this point most all the voice commands will work in MediaCar. But to get the “switch to <song>” and “play something by <artist>” command to work takes some strange tweaks.

Unfortunately this problem is a conflict with how VooDoo Voice finds a song and how MediaCar Stores them when it shuts down. But, heres how to get around it.

Warning! This is only good until you close MediaCar. Then you have to do step 5 below again.

Hopefully we can work on the app and get this corrected.

Basically Voodoo voice must have a full and matching .M3U play list in the MediaCar directory. Here how to do it.

1. Open your regular full version winamp. Add any song to the play list that you may want to hear ( I just selected all of them) Then save the playlist as winamp.M3U to the directory that your mp3s are located in so you can find the file when browsing your MP3’s in MediaCar.

2. Open the MediaCar Setup Utility and be sure to set the Auto Launch Module to Audio. It will not work completely if this is not enabled.

3. when you click OK in MediaCar setup it should open MediaCar > Click List to browse the MP3’s > Click the down arrow until you see winamp.m3u in the list. Double click the file to launch it and listen.

4. Click Exit in the player window, Then Exit in the main window to close MediaCar.

5. Then copy the Winamp.m3u file you saved in the mp3 directory and over write the one in the C:\Program Files\MediaCar directory. Start MediaCar and it should go right to the mp3 player, load a huge song list, and respond to the song name related commands!

Here is a list of the commands:

computer - use this to get the PC to listen to you. Can be changed to anything
begin play
stop play
next song
previous song
switch to <song>
what is this?
increase volume
decrease volume
set volume <percent> percent
mute
play something by <artist>
something else
go back to that last one

Which version of Winamp does Voodoo VOice work on? I can't find any specifications on the guys website... all I know is that I tested it out on Winamp 5.01 and Winamp 2.91 and it doesn't work with either version...

It works with any version from 2.x up. Check your mic setup. there is a mic setup wizard in the control panel that will help you configure it. also be sure you are starting the correct instance of Winamp. if you installed voodoo voice in the default location "C:\Program Files\Winamp\" then you must start winamp from that directory.

This program is so damn badass. Anyone know how to just say a phrase and it plays a specific wav? Also, I know this program is very limited, but is there another software out there that will do something similar?
