Working out the bugs with MC and Routis

I'm using routis at the moment for GPS and have a few issues that make the MC/Routis combo less than ideal.

When I click the GPS button and routis opens ... the start bar is visible (no biggie) but mediacar is not listed. So the only way to leave the GPS open and go back to mediacar is to minimize routis (as MC is still in the back, just not listed in the start bar)

However then if I want to go back to routis I can't ... hitting the GPS button opens the gps screen of the skin, but routis is minimized so I can't see it

these results are the same with and without the run embeded box checked in mc setup.

I also thought of maybe running routis on its own (not through mc) and then starting up mc ... but then the only way to get to routis is to exit mc.

ideally i'd like to be able to listen to music, and let the gps run in the background so it can give me directions. but i still want to be able to flip back to see the map.

any ideas?

Coyote ... some features that might make MC work better with various gps packages:

- Add a command to minimize mediacar. This would be useful in other situations as well were you want access to your desktop but don't want to close mc.

- when the GPS button is clicked, if the software is already running, force a 'maximize' command on the window holding the GPS software. that way if it's minimized it comes back to the screen.

Do you have a keyboard installed or some other way of sending keystrokes to the PC? ALT+Tab will switch between the 2 programs.

You can, I just tried it and it works. At least with Media Car and all the programs I have open on my desktop right now.

i run routis embedded in MC perfectly

I am using it jsut fine. I can also switch mack to mp3 or any other mode and still have roustis run so i can hear the voice navigation. What version of MC are u running?... Instead of closing routis, i just click on exit. Maybe its a new bug because i'm still using 1.8.5

I am also running Routis 2004 flawlessly with MediaCar. It always comes up embedded and I can even leave Routis running in the background embedded so I get voice guidance during music/video play.

Can you tell us how you set it up, perhaps we can help you out.

hey guys thanks for the response ...

reda yes i am using v1.9 of mc. so that could make a difference.

it acts the same regardless of if i ask mc to run gps embeded or not.

The way i have it set up is on the GPS tab i've selected 'external' for gps software ... and i don't have MC ask me which to use. it defaults to external.

I've pointed the program path to routis.exe (or whatever it is).

and i've tried with the embeded checkbox both on and off.

I'm about to get on the road for vacation and i'll be gone for about a week. I'll pay with it a tad more before i get on the highway. if i can't get it to work i'll just have to make due.

not sure what options i'll have where i'll be vacationing to get on the net ... so i may not be able to check the forums. i'll try to check once more before i leave tho.

thanks again for the replies.

Hey, something I can help with (:

To make embedding work correctly with Routis you must configure the Additional Window Search String in the GPS setup tab to show *routis*

Additional config stuff.
Set to GPS Software to External
Set your Path to routis.exe
Check off Run Embedded
