Windows ME and MediaCar
I have been playing around with MediaCar on my home PC which runs Windows XP, but for the Carputer I think I will have to go with Windows ME.... which scares me, cause Windows ME is so crappy and unstable.... but I don't feel like paying MS another $100 for another XP licence.....
Is anybody currently using Windows ME on the Carputers (with MediaCar in particular)? Does it work okay?
Or better yet, how do you get around the damn authorization crap in Windows XP..... I have already bought 2 copies of XP and just don't want to give over another $100 to Billy...
So what do you think of using Windows ME????

Sorry, but Windows ME and MediaCar Don't work well together.
I tried it myself, the text is not displayed correctly in playlist. Song titles get cut off (no matter how short they are). For instance the song Hello is Displayed Hel
I don't think Coyote has plans to support ME, so just use XP.

mediacar may not work with winme and that's the reason i upgraded mine to winxp (with a new mobo), but i would feel a bit bad if i agree with you saying that winme is crap and unstable... that is what runs my carputer setup for years after i had enough of win98/win2000/winxp craps. for a barebone setup, that is the way to go. having said that, mcar seems to be happy with winxp, although i don't get authorization thing with my winxp, i never updated it, didin't have the need to do it.

I am using Win ME on my CarPC (based upon Epia M10000) and I have no problems at all. I works just fine and is not unstable at all.
I am using it every day to and from work (½-45min drive each direction).
My primary use is playing MP3 and GPS navigation with Destinator.
My MediaCar installation is version 1.9 and my control interface is Girder.
I would never install XP on my CarPC (It is just requires to many resource in mater of CPU resources, Memory and HD space).

[Forum health warning]
Do not use ME, I repeat do not use ME, if you must use 98SE or W2K, but not ME.

I'm sorry, I thought I'd add a bit of humour to my advice/opinion. I do apologize for offending you.

Well thanks for the info guys, I just wish a clearer picture emurged..... When I said Windows ME was "crappy and unstable" I was speaking from first hand experience and maybe I did over extend my dis-satisfaction.... Maybe a more appropiate expression would be "it can be flaky".... throughtout about 2 years of using ME on home computers I found it difficult to deal with, had to reformat the HD many times to get things working right....
Plus many things I read on the internet or hear spoken state that ME is not a good operating system....
Now, I did us Windows ME on my last carputer.... for about 18 months.... it worked fine, no problems... but I was using Hover Desk as the interface and so I was more curious about how MediaCar and ME would interact since I can imagine anybody considering ME issues when making a piece of software...
King_Aero: how much would you want for the XP?

And actually I already have two legally pirchased copies of XP, it is the "authorization" stuff that keeps me from putting it on the CarPC (for more than 30 days).....
But thanks for the thought...

Ah, maybe I see where you are going with this Enforcer... maybe if I went to that link I could see a copy of Corporate XP and be amazed by the fact that I could then go buy it and install it with out having to worry about activation... as opposed to illegally obtaining if from someone else and cheating MS out of there rightful revenues....
Am I getting your point????
