PMP (Personal Media Device) modified into a Carputer?

i was just curious. with the myrid of PMP's being released with the capabilities to play 1080i/p as well as being touch screen with no buttons.

has anybody ever thought to purchase one of these units that run anywhere between 150-800 dollars and modify it to become a carputer?

in essense it has the majority of features we already look for within out carputers, and an interface that has been professionally perfected. the only tid bit it might not contain is FM/AM radio, Bluetooth phone interface, and GPS. which maybe depending on what type of OS is being run on the underlying software can possibly be hardwired into the device?

Moved to the mobil device and phone meshing forum.

Check out my project to kill my car PC (see the signature link). Also, check out some of the windows mobile device threads in this forum. People are considering this approach.

i'm guessing nobody has developed this? at heart the majority of these devices are running windows ce. it would only make sense that development for these devices should be fairly straight forward. they also use USB to connect to PC's so they already have a USB port.

The usb in these devices is a slave, not a host.

The Archos 5 Internet Tablet is very powerful and plays HD movies without any stutter on good and brillant 5 inch screen. Running GPS in background etc.

With a Mini Dock you can charge it via cigarette lighter and it provides USB Host. Keyboard, mouse etc. can go via bluetooth
