This post is mainly for Verizon users but in case others have questions. I was having issues with my Windows Mobile HTC Vogue (Verizon xv6900) which ended up being a hardware issue. Long story short...I called Verizon to see what my options as and since my account is VIP (whatever that means) I have an option for discounted upgrades. I was asking mainly about the release for the Omnia II (
which is supposed to be released this month, Oct 2009
) but learned even more goods in the process.
The new Verizon pda/smartphones will have open Wifi and open GPS, as opposed to locking these features unless you purchase their navigator software or other commercial product..or flash them. I know to other carriers this may be old news but its a nice change for Verizon. They are gearing up for their new 4G network next year and the new phones will be compatible. One of the cool features I was told is that you can track your phone GPS online and if you lose your phone you will have the ability to erase the data remotely.
I am mainly excited about this because this will add some more functionality and additional integration with my CarPC project. Although the HTC Imagio is tempting...I need the Omnia II for its video-out feature.
