The dreaded Shuffle issue.....again :(
Hi Red,
I know this has already been brought to your attention but I thought I would touch on it again.
Bassicly since ironing out the issues I was having with MI the program is F**Kn awsome .....apart from that dahm shuffle function. I have about 2000 songs on my carpc and when starting the program i get the same shuffle order time and time again.
It has to be possible to have a totaly changing shuffle sequence like in windows media player etc.
Is it just too much work to have this fixed or is it a possibility?
Cheers for all the time you put into this software. Makes driving a pure plesure (apart from the shuffle hehe).

Thanks for the compliments! At this time I haven't fixed the shuffle issue, currently the program will not go to the next song automatically, you have to hit the next or previous buttons. The shuffle is designed to reset and change every time the user changes folders. If you have all your songs in a single folder then i can see that this would be an extremely difficult issue to overcome and you would spend a lot of time clicking back and forth between folders. I have my music organized according to artist and album in separate folders and when i wrote it I didn't take into account a situation like yours, and apparently many others as well. So this indicates to me that the code that i have created is inadequate and will have to take a totally different approach. This is in the works and as of yet i have not found a solution....... to be continued

Hay Red,
The issue isn't so much that it changes everytime I change a folder but that whenever the program is restarted it goes back to the same order every time.
IE it plays track 1,5,9,3,7 etc etc then I close the program.
The next time I open it, it again plays track 1,5,9,3,7 etc.
This means that every time I get into the car I hear the tracks in the same order.
It really needs something that is truly random and is different every time the program is started. I have a feeling this would be rather tricky but if it can be done with all the media players like WMP and winamp etc then there must be a algorithm around that works.
Is there any way that you could find out how it is done with these programs and use the same method or would that require reverse engineering the program?
Im Rapt to hear that your working on this as once fixed it will make this program unbeatable IMHO.

Actually this is one of visual basic's truly problematic weaknesses. Windows Media Player is written in both VB and C#, the parts that are written in C# are things like the equalizer, the library/playlist, the shuffle and several other functions. Because my program is written purely in VB i cant take advantage of these other functions much as i would like to. Believe me i tried when i was trying to add the equalizer, there is a ton of published code, but none of it works.... The next version will have a decent shuffle function....

Tursty- that issue sounds the same as the complaint I had when I used an iPod with an adapter to my Sony head unit. I always kept it on shuffle and evertime it was connected it would start with the same songs. I was always having to hit NEXT. Pain in the a$$. Now I'm getting into the carpc community and loving the amazing amount of options out there.
