Boston Wimax Testing - at 65 MPH!

As promised we tested Xohm in Boston on Wednesday. A hex on the skeptics!
Wimax’s black magic is prevalent and resilient in more places than just Baltimore even at 65mph! With a name like Mp3car, we have to test this stuff in our cars...
Below are the results of an in car “driving” test from Boston Logan airport to Weymouth. Keep in mind that Xohm is not officially active in Boston and the network is still in test mode.
Xohm did not work on the runway or inside the airport because they probably don’t have any towers there yet or they are down for upgrades. Xohm DID work at high speeds on the Runway at Baltimore’s BWI so it was not a structure or plane interference issue.

We started driving south away from the BOS airport and before we hit the toll I was getting 2.5 MBPS on my speed test results. The testing didn’t quite finish before we went in the tunnel. So I kept testing all the way to Weymouth. Coverage was patchy, but when it worked, it really worked. Bandwidth speed tests were impressive despite driving at 50-65 mph.
On the maps below you can see a little white man. These men were automatically rendered on my Google map by Xohm’s Location detection feature. They were generally accurate within about 1000ft.

I will write more tomorrow and throughout the weekend on Xohm’s Location Based Services (LBS) and features. For you Boston locals I plan to do speed tests in 3-4 other areas of the city while I am here.

Talk about this in our Wimax Forums.

But besides that, good to know some options are opening up, but unfortunately I got a past beef with sprint and shady billing.

Wow

Really good info! It's good to see an independent 3rd party validating the technology. Any way you guys can do a 3G vs 4G (WiMax) side by side up/download test?

This is exciting stuff!

I will be down at state street today and will do a comparison of Verizon's evdo service on a Novatel V640 Expresscard Vs Xohm on my Samsung Xohm Wimax card.
