Capacitive is what DOESN'T respond to fingernails and such, correct? Only finger touch or object of a different temperature than the surface. Something like that,... .

so basically is this what is in the iphone/ipod touch and apple's newest touch pads?

This would be nice. Resistive touch screen are seriously a joke to keep them working good.

Correct- the iPhone has a capacitive touch panel.

It is my understanding that capacitive also technically allows multi-touch capabilities. That area has some patent landmines but maybe some hobbyist multi-touch implementations will pop up after the hardware is released.
