OMG I'm going to design a touch version of this screen..... At this point my install is over $4,000.00, it going up alittle more wont hurt! This is a cool thread, Im glad I decided to pop in here and leave a comment.
I was thinking of this though. You can simply buy a full wireless USB hub, then connect the touchscreen and a VGA to USB adapter.

Maybe you could try one of those MIMO USB touch screen lcds with that hub. I think the screen is powered via USB, too, so you'd just need a 5V DC-DC adapter for the battery to run both the screen and hub

oh wow thats the perfect idea. Its just that I already have a screen laying around, but that would save on cost. Maybe I can sell the EBY701.

Well, I have got the ball rolling. I have sold my EBY701, so I am going to start buying the components. The list will be as followed,
1) MiMo USB touchscreen
2) IOGEAR USB Wireless Hub
3) Gateway Laptop Battery that is very slim and small
4) OPUS DC-DC 15W PSU
Now the cool thing about using the IOGEAR Wireless Hub is that the device would not be limited to your car. You can buy another dongle that will be found by the hub. So image when you get home, you just take it in the house and use it on your Media Center PC.

Have you made sure the wireless usb hub can reliably sustain enough bandwidth for the lcd?

It states on the description that it can handle high bandwidth video devices, so I would have to assume yes. The only thing I can do is try it. I think thats all the Wireless VGA version is, is a USB video card wireless USB, minus the HUB and extra ports.

i thought it specificly stated that it won't do things like webcams. I agree, the only way to do this is to try it. Have you bought your mimo yet? Maybe we can loan you ours? PM or email me if you are interested.

I didn't notice that till now...... I am hoping it is only limited to web cams. So basically the web cam on the screen is useless. I ordered the hub today, so lets see how it works.
I did call customer service for IOGEAR and confirmed that the HUB used DC power (in the past I have been burned by ordering things that are only AC). I also asked if the Mimo would work. They have told me that it does, but you know how people can talk out their a$$ sometimes and just assume it will work.

How visible is the MIMO in daylight? It doesn't look like a transflective unit.

We will see how bright they look. I did get the Wireless USB Hub in today and decided to look at the back and read. Here is what it says it works with:
Printers
Scanners
External Hard Drives and Flash Memory Sticks
Digital Cameras
Camcorders
Personal Media Players
USB Enabled LCD Monitors and Projectors
PDA's, Smart Phones, and Cell Phones
If the camera on the MiMo is not something chromatic (cant remember the name) then it should work. Although on the box it does say it does not work with USB Speakers or WebCams. At least the touch screen and screen will work. Also the hub uses 5V at 3amps, which is close to the limit of the DC-DC power supply. I dont think it will use 3amps though.

Cool. I'm *really* interested in seeing how this unit performs in direct sunlight.

Awesome
Glad I cam across this thread. I've been keeping up with what this community does with car-pcs since last summer and your setup is almost exactly what I'm hoping to put together for my ultra mobile pc.
I was origionally going to use a pico with a mimo but a setup like this seems a lot easier in the long run if it works... not to mention cheaper. I placed my order for the mimo last night but I'm going to wait for it to get in before I pick up the wireless usb hub.
Also really interested in how well your battery solution will work

Im going to get my little brothers HD Camcorder so I can have videos on what I am doing. My whole plan is to have it as thin as possible, so it is handhled for big and small handed people. All the components should fit neatly behind the screen. I am also going to make a custom USB cable so I dont have to roll anything up.

I would think the mimo would get a lot longer run time due to the lower power LED screen. I am interested to know what the amperage draw is between the battery and the PSU. I am such a geek

I am interested also, especially since the battery I am using is a 11.1V battery. The OPUS DC-DC can use the 11.1 voltage and OPUS Solutions has told me that as long as the input is 1V higher then the output, it should be OK. I really don't think the amperage of the screen matters since it will be drawing the amperage from the USB HUB, which has a limit of 3amps. My only concern is the OPUS DC-DC amperage, it also tops out at 3. I am hoping though that the MiMo only uses about 2amps or less. Only thing I need help with is figuring out the battery, I cant figure out what is + and -. Its a battery for a Gateway M405.
