Lilliput is getting ready to release their new 7" touchscreen that has native DVI and component digital out. Previous models such as the 629 had only VGA, Composite and S-Video.

What is great about this monitor is that it's now extra versatile. They left the pigtail plug on the monitor and just added the extra DVI and component cables. That means you have the option to output to 5 different video sources, DVI, VGA, composite, component and s-video.

The connectors for DVI came out of the bottom of the unit, whereas the pigtail connector came out of the side. So this may affect some installations but just be aware that it *may* be changed.

The digital output was, in our opinion, more defined in terms of the colors. More specifically the blacks were blacker and the whites were whiter.

The only down side we noticed is that the DVI output seemed to have off colors. The ocean in the video seemed very green, even though on VGA it was blue.

All the settings for the test were brightness 50% Green 50% blue 50% and red 50% with a resolution of 800x600. They ran from the same ATI graphics card playing BBC's blue ocean on VLC player.

looks nice, but im not sure if it was the angle you were shooting the video but it seems like it has more glare on it and harder to see in the light then the vga model.
Also any idea how long till they come out.

My first impression was that calling the ports on a monitor 'outputs' is extremely confusing... Also, it seems the major advantage of DVI over VGA for these low resolution screens would be the ability to ensure 1:1 pixel display, which viewing in 800x600 negates.

Another complaint... the DVI and Component cables seem to just be sticking out of the bottom of the case, seriously limiting placement options. At least the proprietary connection on the back allows for some more flexible placement options.

We're not 100% that is where the cables will be on the final model as this is a prototype. I really think, if they have the ability, to extend the proprietary connector to allow the DVI and component. Basically if they could use the same cable they use now, just with more connections, that would be ideal.

When holding the monitors for the video there was a lot of glare, it had everything to do with how I was holding them. In the still camera shots of the screens you can see the difference. The VGA did seem a tad brighter, but that could have been random lighting where I filmed it.

Were not 100% when it will be available, we will be sure to announce on the store when it is.

I'll be in the market for a display sometime this summer. Looking forward to this one going retail soon!
Would it be beneficial to include an HDMI port instead of/in addition to DVI?

For all intents and purposes, when discussing a monitor alone, DVI == HDMI. Either would be equivalent, and certainly no need for both.

For some reason I thought DVI cables were thicker and bulkier. I have never seen an hdmi cable though, so it was all just in my head. I just figured it would be easier to run a thinner cable from my trunk to where I would place a display, than a thick DVI cable.

DVI should have better picture quality, but does it really matter for such a small screen? Im curious as to how this monitor would actually look inside a car under sunlight.

I would be more impressed if they improved the actually LCD panel, maybe optimizing sunlight viewability while bringing down costs.

Liliputs native res is 800x480. It depends on what computer you are using. In the video my desktop could not output in that resolution.

I have Intel 945 graphics from Atom 330. I was hoping to sell my EBY model and get this one only to have the option for 800x480. Hope the production models go for a better vga card support (or monitor drivers) for the native res.

Waiting for it to appear in storefront, as may be numerous others.
